Staying in Control and Losing Weight While Traveling

Whether you’re attending a conference, going on vacation, or flying for work, staying in control and losing weight while traveling can feel unachievable.  Often, your schedule is not your own and you are at the mercy of the day ahead of you and the people you are with… or at least it feels that way.

What if I told you that you have far more control than you think?  What if I told you that you can stay in control and lose weight while traveling?

In many ways, we’ve been sold a false bill of goods.  We’ve been led to believe that we can’t have both, a healthy lifestyle, weight loss, and time away from our regular routine.  That we can’t travel for work and still reach out goals.  That we can’t vacation with family and friends and remain focused on our healthy lifestyle.  We can… but I think there’s a voice inside of us that wants the getaway.  A voice inside of us that wants a vacation of its own from our food and wellness rules.

Staying in Control and Losing Weight While Traveling
Take a second to think back to your last vacation or work trip.  What could you have done to stay on track?  What could you have done to stay in control and lose weight?

In every moment and at every meal, we have a choice.  The choice to use the present moment to be healthy.

Before your next trip, take a few moments to think about the moments while traveling that derail your wellness/weight loss plan.  What are the 1 or 2 things that happen over and over again, sending you into the “well, there goes my plan! Let’s eat!”.

Staying in Control and Losing Weight While Traveling
For me, I know I have to use every opportunity to move and be active! To go for short walks throughout the day, to find a local activity to break a sweat, and to get up early to workout before the day gets going. I also have to establish rules around food, many of which are rules to never have x, y, and z while traveling. This creates healthy boundaries for me around foods that can lead to mindless and overeating.

The truth is, we can be healthy while we travel. We can stick to our plan and maintain/lose weight. We can tell that inner voice that wants to sabotage our efforts that we’ve got this and are in control! The choice is ours and a few simple rules can make all the difference!
