Our Weekend

Last week Neal’s parents were in town from Iowa to meet baby Kinnick. It was a quiet week, spent mostly at home, but it was wonderful spending time with Neal, his parents, and both kiddos.

Now one thing I am extremely grateful for is that Neal’s dad is quite the handy man! When he’s in town, Neal and his dad love to tackle various projects around the house. This trip Neal’s dad installed a new lock on the front door, replaced a few door knobs on the first floor, and fixed a few toilets. One of the bigger issues we’ve been having in our house is with our kitchen floor.  The tile the previous owners installed just before selling the house, which I am not a fan of, has started shifting and the grout has started coming up in various spots. I was hopeful we could just fill in the grout, but we quickly realized the issues were much bigger.

Kitchen Floor
It was a stressful project, especially on Friday, but I am so, so, so grateful for Neal’s dad!  He worked on the floor off and on over the weekend and was able to fix the 5 tiles.  Our hope is that the tiles will stay put and that we’ll be able to install hardwood flooring on the first floor of our house sooner than later!

On Saturday I woke up and knew I needed a restart. It’s hard for me to make myself a priority when people are in town and I was really feeling the effects by Saturday.
This weekend was absolutely gorgeous here in the DC area, especially on Saturday, so I tried to make the most of it and refocused on my Daily Habits. I started my Saturday bright and early, enjoying a cup of coffee outside with Kinnick after his 6AM feed, and then made myself a bowl of oatmeal.

After Magnolia woke up and had a little breakfast, we all headed down to the lake for a long walk.

It was just beautiful on Saturday and I loved being able to get out of the house, to get a good workout in, and to spend some one-on-one time with Neal. It’s really starting to hit me that I’ll be heading back to the office in a few weeks, which is bittersweet. It’s going to be hard leaving Kinnick a few days a week, but I also know that it’ll be nice going into the office as well. It was nice talking things through with Neal during our walk and being able to discuss my last few weeks of leave.  I really want to make the most of it before starting my transition back to working mom.

We got an awesome workout in, just over a 5K, and then enjoyed some time around the house before having lunch and putting Magnolia down for a nap.

Neal’s parents headed back to Iowa Sunday morning and we hung out around the house most of the day. We had originally planned to head over to Virginia for the morning, but quickly realized we just needed some time at home to decompress.

Corn
Neal took Magnolia for another long walk while I relaxed at home with Kinnick. We ate lunch at home, enjoying some of the Iowa corn Neal’s parents brought us and an iced cold beer, and enjoyed a little quiet time while the kids napped (Kinnick’s didn’t last long).

All in all, it was a nice weekend.  My sister is in town for just the day today and I’m looking forward to spending some time with her.  We’re going to run some errands, including picking out clothes for the newborn photo shoot we have scheduled with Stefanie Harrington next weekend.

Neal and I have quite a bit on our plate this week, including a number of doctors appointments, but my goal is to relax with Kinnick as much as possible.  I know these last few weeks of leave will fly by, so I want to make the most of them.  Here’s to having a good week!
