Life lately… has been pretty awesome! I won’t candy coat anything; Kinnick wakes up each night at roughly 12AM, 3AM, and 6AM (after screaming from 7-10PM), Magnolia turns 3 in a month (#allthefeels), I’m heading back to work part time tomorrow (Gah!), and I’m anxious about managing everything as we move into the new school year.
These things aside though, life is really great! Kinnick is growing like a weed and I kid you not, I think he’ll be in 6 month clothing for length next month. He’s already stretching the 3 month clothing because he’s so tall (24 inches at 4 weeks old). He hit the 6 week mark on Saturday and I’m hoping to see some of the sleep and personality changes that occur between 6-8 weeks of age. Magnolia is doing wonderful. I just adore her. She’s starting pre-k in a few weeks and I’m just thrilled to see her grow and develop over this next year. I am very proud of her. Neal is kicking butt, putting up with me (and my hormones) and is helping out tons around the house. We’re both eager for football season to start (Go Hawks!) and to enjoy the cool fall/winter weekends together with our little family.
Personally, I’m really starting to feel like myself again after pregnancy and having Kinnick. I’ve had a pretty healthy postpartum experience so far, but adding my workouts back in, seeing more of my friends, and being able to do more with my days has just been wonderful. Sitting around the house all day and not being allowed to be active is like a prison sentence for me. I’m sure some of you can relate.
Last week Neal took a half day and we went to the Nationals game with Kinnick (his first game) and two of my dear co-workers. It was so nice going to a Nationals day game and drinking a beer outside in the summer sun.
Fitness wise, I’m feeling fantastic! I’ve been to OrangeTheory 3 times so far and each workout gets better and better. I just love working out at OrangeTheory.
I haven’t added in any other workouts just yet, but plan to come September. One step at at time. For now, I’m just loving working out with my 5AM crew and breaking a sweat at OrangeTheory twice a week.
As I shared last week, I’m feeling really good about my body because I have accepted it for where it currently is. I’m not diving head first into weight loss this time around and I feel really good about it! Part of accepting my postpartum body is also wearing clothes that I feel great in! I have gone through my closet, have removed any clothes that I don’t feel comfortable in/don’t fit, and I’ve spent a little money on a few new outfits for work.
As I shared on Instagram Stories, I was so excited when Lane Bryant sent me a pair of their new Super Stretch Skinny jeans. I paired them with a beautiful blush top I bought a few weeks back at Lane Bryant for our newborn photo shoot and I just felt great! The new Super Stretch Skinny jeans are heaven. They have a great fit, are a little higher waist, and I love, love, love the stretch. The key for me with stretch jeans is that they don’t get dumpy after wearing them for a few hours, and these don’t. It’s the perfect amount of stretch and I love them. I can’t wait to wear them more and more as we move into fall!! Bring the jeans, boots, hoodies, and scarves!
I’ve also been trying to invest more time in my own self care; putting on a little makeup, reading magazines while I eat lunch, going for walks with Kinnick during the day, and making the most of the hours when Kinnick naps. Things are pretty hectic when everyone is home, but I’m really enjoying the quiet hours sprinkled throughout the day when I’m home with just Kinnick.
All in all, I’m really grateful for where things stand at just 6 weeks postpartum. This season of life is full of adjustments and we have some pretty big ones ahead of us. I’m excited to head back to work tomorrow and am grateful I can use saved vacation hours to return to work part time until January. I know it’s going to take some time to create a new routine for the work week, but it’ll be good to rip off the band-aid tomorrow. I’ve prepped as much as I can and we’ll just see how things go, making adjustments as we need to. Here we go!
