Late last night I returned from a last minute trip to San Antonio and I am so thankful to have been able to spend a few days with my best friend, my parents, and my brother. After flying to Texas last Tuesday night, I headed straight over to Stephanie’s house and stayed up way too late talking. Isn’t girl talk just about the most rejuvenating time? I miss staying up late and talking about life’s realities with Stephanie.
Wednesday morning I arrived at my parents house and helped my mom prepare for her cooking class at the USO. My mom is an amazing cook and instructor and has been teaching for a few years now. As a veteran, being able to teach through the USO is a dream for her, so I was excited to attend one of her classes while I was in town.
It was amazing meeting a number of the soldiers and to hear them say that my mom’s cooking reminded them of home. It made me so happy! I especially loved that they loved my mom’s sweet and sour meatballs. They really are the best and bring back so many memories from my childhood.
The rest of the week was spent relaxing at home, hanging out with Stephanie, and spending time around San Antonio.
I was able to get some good workouts in, taking a few classes with my mom including Zumba. I didn’t make it over to OrangeTheory while I was in town, but I felt good about the workouts I was able to get done. Especially considering all the yummy food we ate while I was in town (hello Texas BBQ, breakfast tacos, and Mexican food).
On Saturday the weather was really yucky, so we baked lots of Christmas cookies and went to the movies to see Arrival. I loved the movie and had a great time with my family.
I had such a wonderful time in Texas and am very grateful for the time I was able to spend with everyone. Neal was an absolute rock star with Magnolia while I was gone and it was great seeing them both last night at the airport. All three of us are tired and out of routine, but we’re getting back into the swing of things.
