I hope y’all had a wonderful weekend! For those affected by hurricane Matthew, I hope everyone is safe! I am extremely grateful our family in Florida is safe and am praying for those who are recovering from this disaster. Also, happy Columbus Day! 5 years ago Neal proposed on Columbus Day, so it holds a special place in my heart. If you’re off work today, or your kids’ schools are closed and thus you’re taking the day off work, I hope you enjoy this time away from the office!
If I could choose one imagine to summarize last week, it would be this picture. The traffic was so incredibly bad last week, which included my 2.5 hour commute into the office on Thursday morning (it normally takes me an hour to get into the office on Thursdays). If there’s one thing that I hate about the DC area, it’s the traffic. There’s often no rhyme or reason to it and when there is a reason for it, it’s fully out of your control. In the end, you have to get to your final destination, it just might take 2-3 times longer certain days.
One thing that added to the craziness of last week was my last minute decision to consign clothes at Tot Swap Maryland. I can’t wait to share my experience with those in the DC area and in Maryland. I learned a lot from this adventure and hope I can pass along what I would/will do differently next time! We made a lot of money! So it was well worth the work!
Friday I took some time off work and went to the WOW Summit with Moms Meet. I was extremely grateful for the invitation and was excited to attend the blogger sessions on Friday. Before the sessions kicked off on Friday, I met up with the amazing Alexe from Keys to the Cucina. We grabbed lunch at Nando’s Peri-Peri and I had this amazing Quinoa and Avocado salad. It was so good!
There were 3 sessions Friday afternoon that Alexe and I attended: How Blogs Go Viral, Facebook Marketing, and Go Pro. The sessions were interesting and definitely provided some helpful tips. Blogging is a passion of mine, and although Coffee Cake and Cardio has changed a lot over the years, it is something I really enjoy and want to continue. Although I don’t have a dream to be a full time blogger, it was really helpful to hear what steps others are taking to clean up their blogs and to provide readers with a smooth reading experience. I haven’t had a lot of time to invest into my blog these past few months, but I’m hoping to take some time over the winter to clean up my blog and to improve your experience.
Sunday morning was definitely the highlight of the weekend! Early Sunday morning we headed down to the Pentagon to cheer Neal on as he ran the Army 10 Miler. Neal has done such a great job with his training and I was excited to see him race.
After saying goodbye to Neal, Magnolia and I ran over to Starbucks and grabbed some coffee and oatmeal. We weren’t going to be able to get into the city to see Neal, so we agreed seeing him at the start and the finish would work out well.
Neal finished the race in 1:30, which shaved 10 minutes off his previous Army 10 Miler finish. He killed it!
After the race we headed back to Maryland, hung out at home, watched the Nationals game/Redskins game, and napped. It was a pretty spectacular Sunday! All in all, we had a great weekend!! Now on to a new work week and my last week as a 31 year old! I’m excited to turn 32 and to move into a new year!
