Woo Hoo!! The first week of the school year is behind us. It was a really great week and I’m so glad the students are back. This week was full of long days and plenty of late nights, but I’m really happy with how the first week went. My favorite day was probably Tuesday. It was my longest day, going into work at 6AM and getting home at 9:30PM, but the leadership development events I ran that day were really fulfilling.
Personally, this week was all about staying organized, accomplishing my to do list each day at work, and getting great sleep. As you probably saw here on the blog, I didn’t blog much. I usually blog at night or first thing in the morning, but this week I went to bed early each day. I knew I wouldn’t be my best self if I wasn’t making my own self care a priority. Most nights after getting home from work I enjoyed dinner with Neal, played with Magnolia if she was still awake, tidied up the house a bit, and cleaned up my work e-mail before heading to bed. September is always a transitional month, getting back into the school groove, but I’ve learned the hard way in the past that I can’t do it all. This summer I focused on shifting my priorities and this was the first week I really felt that shift in a positive way.
This week I focused on self care by bringing flowers to work, taking a lunch break most days, getting outside at some point each work day, staying organized, limiting the amount of work I did at home each night, and working out. This weekend my sister is here, YAY, and we’re planning to get our nails done, to enjoy the beautiful weather, and to plan out some house decor. I really want to start decorating the house this fall and winter.
Weight loss wise, I gained 3 pounds. I won’t say I was surprised, but I was surprised. I got some great workouts in this week and my diet was far from horrible. I had breakfast at home every day, eating some combination of eggs, an English muffin, and turkey sausage links. For lunch, I brought salads from home almost every day. On Tuesday I did grab Subway, but I tracked it. Dinners most nights were at home, except for Tuesday. We had leftover pork on Monday, homemade pizza on Wednesday, and chicken burgers on Thursday. Again, nothing crazy. I really think my weight gain this week stemmed from stress, my TOM, and not tracking strictly. I tracked a lot after the fact and that just doesn’t work well. I end up eating more than I tracked because I’m measuring.
This upcoming week, my goal is to keep self care as my focus and to track what I eat, before I eat, every day. I’m hoping my weight will bounce right back, especially because I really don’t feel like I gained that much weight. Hopefully it’s just a weigh fluctuation and I can turn things back around quickly. This is one of those weeks that the scale is just the scale. I’m really proud of the week that just ended and I know I can do little things to make next week even better.
