Next week I am taking a few days off work and I can not wait! I’ve been looking to take some time off and a staycation sounded ideal. With the 4th of July holiday on Monday and Neal’s and my 4th wedding anniversary on Thursday, I couldn’t think of a better time to vacation in DC. While I hope Neal is able to take a day or two off from work next week, I’ll most likely spend most of the work week by myself, which is fine by me!
We’ll be taking some time off as a family at the end of July, so I want to use the week ahead to get things done around the house, to invest in my own self care, to recharge my batteries before the 16-17 school year begins, and to venture down to DC for a bit. I hope it’ll be a week in which I can accomplish things I’ve been putting off for months, even years. I’m looking forward to the me time and have some fun things planned! It’s time to enjoy my own summer staycation!
Around the House
I have been wanting to paint our front door for months now and next week it is happening! I had originally thought of also paining the kitchen next week, but then I realized I was being overzealous. I’m going to save that project for the end of the month when Neal’s parents are in town and we’re in renovation mode. I am planning to paint the door a navy(ish) color (haven’t finalized a color but have plenty to choose from), which I think will go great with our tan and khaki exterior. I’ll confess that I’ve never done much painting, outside of an art studio, but I’m eager to take on this project and to become more comfortable with painting.
I am also planning to organize our basement. Right now, the large room in our basement has become a storage area. With a finished basement, there is lots of potential, but I’ve got to clear it out. I hope to create a donation pile, a for sale pile, and a put away pile. Figuring out where to move things will be the challenge, but it’s time to finish unpacking and to move towards decorating! First things first though, it’s time to clean up and to get organized!
Lastly, I need to work on designing our basement bathroom. We are planning a complete bathroom renovation for the end of July, so it’s time to pick out tiles, the paint, and the vanity. We’re also putting in a shower in the basement bathroom, so it’ll be a completely different bathroom when all is said and done. I can’t wait!
If Neal is able to take a day or two off work, our plan is to go into the city and to play tourist. I love making my way down to the monuments, to see some of the new exhibits at the Smithsonian museums, and to try some of the new restaurants. We love running by Baked and Wired every summer, so we’ll see if we can get our cupcake fix next week. I’d actually love to go kayaking with Neal on the Potomac, so it’d work out perfectly to spend a morning in Georgetown. We’ll see what we can make happen!
I also need to run some errands. I need to run by the bank, see if I can find a mirror at Homegoods, TJ Maxx, or Marshalls, and hope to drop off some things to donate. A trip to Virginia may also be in my future, so we’ll see! My main goal is to make the most of my days off.
Last but not least, I am most excited about the time I will have to recharge and pamper myself. I went ahead and scheduled workouts for the week and I can not wait! I’m signed up for spin classes on Sunday and Tuesday and OrangeTheory workouts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I’m leaving Thursday open for Neal’s and my anniversary, but I have some ideas that involve running.
I am also planning pedicure and Cava outing. My feet need some TLC and I’m looking forward to getting out of the house and just relaxing. I thought about maybe getting a massage, but I’d rather spend money on our house. Have I thought about sleeping in and taking nap? Of course, but I know I won’t want to waste the day away. It’d be easy to just relax at home, watch OITNB, and to take naps, but I really want to get a lot done and to recharge in other ways. I know I’ll squeeze a nap or two in somewhere, but my goal is to be out and about instead of chilling at home.
My goal is to leave the week feeling accomplished, recharged, and refocused. I want to take some time to journal, to create some goals for the year ahead (professional goals and personal goals), and to soak up the sun. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to spend some time alone and look forward to the weekends with Magnolia and the days Neal is able to take off.
