I’m coming off of a 4 day weekend and boy was it filled with lots of highs and plenty of lows. It was so nice taking a few days off work to go to Penn State with my sister and I’m thankful to have been able to spend time with family over the weekend. The week ahead is a weird one, as I’m at an all day work event today, at a 1/2 day work event tomorrow, and then I’ll be in Dallas Thursday through Sunday for a work conference. I definitely need to come up with a plan for the week ahead, but for now, here’s a look at the highs and lows of the long weekend.
High — Working out at OrangeTheory Sunday early afternoon. This was a pretty last minute decision and I’m so glad I worked out yesterday. I was feeling pretty crummy after all of the eating out I had done over the long weekend and the workout recharged me and got me out of my funk. It was an endurance day, so we did longer stretches on the treadmill, high reps in the weight room, and plenty of rowing.
High — Watching the Hall & Oats Live From Dublin concert on AXS TV. First of all, who knew AXS TV was a TV station? Second, anyone else obsessed with Hall & Oats? Goodness, I love them!! Since the Adele concert on TV this winter, I’ve really loved watching concerts on TV. I stumbled across this one, but it was pretty stinking awesome!
Low — I really struggled on Weight Watchers these past 4 days. Well, it wasn’t Weight Watchers, it was me. As I shared on Friday, I had a tough time while traveling to Penn State. You can read more about it here, but it was just tough eating out for a couple of days and not staying in the diet mindset. I went into Saturday wanting a fresh start and it honestly wasn’t horrible. I think it’s just tough not being in a normal routine with family being in town. Saturday morning I had a light breakfast, 3 turkey sausage links and egg whites and then went to Good Stuff Eatery for lunch. We were meeting up with some of my cousins who were in town, which was really fun! I ordered a the Obama burger, no fries, and had a couple of bites of the toasted marshmallow milkshake. I felt good about what I ate. Saturday night we had Cava. I ordered a super greens bowl with grilled chicken, hummus, lots of veggies, and spicy harissa dressing. Sunday we went to breakfast with my parents at Ted’s Bulletin. I ordered the spinach and mushroom omelet and stole Neal’s avocado. I did a horrible job of tracking my Weight Watchers Points this weekend, that’s another blog post, but I tried to choose wisely when we ate out this weekend.
Low — All. The. Sweets! My weakness this weekend was definitely the sweets! We had chocolate cake for my sister’s birthday and berry cobbler just because. I know being tempted by sweets is inevitable, so I need to figure out a way to enjoy sweets without going overboard. Having a piece of cake or cobbler wouldn’t be a big deal, but after all the eating out, I definitely didn’t need more sweets. Moderation is about picking and choosing and this weekend, I definitely had it all instead of picking and choosing.
High — Finding Halo Top at Wegmans. Speaking of sweets, I’ve seen this HALO Top ice cream all over Instagram and was happy to find it at Wegmans. It’s EXPENSIVE, but it is definitely a delicious, low calorie, treat!! 60 calories, 2g fat, 14g carbs, 5g fiber, 6g protein, 2sp for 1/2 cup!
Low — Dropping my iPhone and shattering the screen. Yep!! It stunk! I was getting out of my car and plop! It landed face down and I just knew the screen was shattered. Thankfully, my phone was under insurance, so I hope to have a new phone by next week. Still, it was definitely a low point of the weekend.
High — I bought my first container of Old Bay seasoning. I work downtown DC, but we’ve been living in Maryland since we got married in 2012 after years of being a Virginia girl. For those in the DC area, you understand the battle between living in DC, MD, or VA. Well, after living in Maryland for 4 years and buying a home here, I thought it was time to buy some Old Bay seasoning. I made some amazing baked fish, which was caught by our neighbor in the Chesapeake Bay.
Low — Under the weather. Miss Magnolia wasn’t herself this weekend. Some bugs have been going around daycare, so I wouldn’t be shocked if she caught something there. I always feel so bad when she’s sick, but I’ll confess that I loved all the snuggles. She’s such a sweetie pie.
High — Seeing the monuments! Even if just for a few minutes, I always love seeing the monuments. Living in Maryland, I hardly ever see them. Honestly, sometimes I forget that we live in the DC area because I rarely get down to the mall area these days. It was nice seeing the monuments on Saturday.
