Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you’re enjoying your day, especially if this is a long weekend for you. We’ve had an absolutely amazing weekend and I’m looking forward to enjoying Memorial Day.
My weekend started off Friday with an awesome workout at Orange Theory and a productive day at work. Friday night, Neal and I made ground turkey and zucchini tacos and then watched Glory Road. It was a nice evening at home after a long work week.
Saturday morning we hung out with my Dad, enjoyed breakfast at home as a family (eggs, turkey sausage, and a little cheese), and then ran a few errands before Magnolia’s nap. We ran to Target and Home Depot to pick up a few things for some of our weekend projects.
We haven’t been able to do much work on the outside of our house since moving in last December, so I’ve been wanting to spend a little money and to work on the front of our house. I want to paint our front door, paint the hand railings along our steps, take out all the nasty bushes in front of our house, and then redo the flower beds.
During Magnolia’s nap on Saturday we started working on removing the bushes and wood chips from the front flower beds. Since moving in, we’ve been driving ourselves crazy trying to find the source of the moth ball smell in our house. We’re looked EVERYWHERE and, after tearing down a wall in our basement bathroom, narrowed it down to under our front steps. On Saturday we started to remove the wood chips in the flower beds and started to dig under the front steps… y’all!!!! I just about died when Neal started pulling out bag of moth balls. We found THREE bag of moth balls under the front steps and I just couldn’t believe it!! I’m SO glad we finally found the source of the darn moth ball smell.
We hit the pause button on our front yard project, hung out with our neighbors, and then enjoyed the rest of our Saturday at home. I made this delicious tuna salad (can of tuna, 1 tbsp light mayo, 1 tbsp sweet relish, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper – 4sp) for dinner, watched a gazillion episodes of The Walking Dead, and then headed to bed.
Sunday morning I woke up early with Magnolia, went for a walk with her and Theodore, and then headed to the Olney Farmers Market after Neal woke up. The Olney Farmers Market is probably my favorite farmers market in the DC area. I just love the vendors and layout.
Magnolia also met Elmo while we were there, which was super cute. She was so excited and was absolutely giddy to see him.
Once home, we put Magnolia down for her nap and then got back to work in the yard. We cut down a really large bush, finished digging out the old dirt, and then started filling in the beds with new dirt. The yard looks SO much better already and I haven’t even planted anything yet. It’s going to look so great when its all done.
Thanks to a really long nap, we were able to get almost everything done with the flower beds before Magnolia woke up. We spent the rest of the day inside, played a ton, and cleaned up the house a bit. I also made these delicious raspberry crumble bars for Memorial Day. They are SO yummy!
This morning I headed over to OrangeTheory and ran a 20:28 2-mile! I was really proud of myself!
Once home, I made breakfast, organized myself for the week ahead, vacuumed the entire house, and played with Magnolia before her morning nap. Now we’re relaxing and are looking forward to an afternoon outdoors before we grill burgers for dinner. It’s going to be a great day!
