I have been on one too many vacations where I return home and wish I had made healthier choices. I end my vacation needing a vacation from my vacation. I’ve learned the hard way that vacations don’t need to be a time of overindulgence. You can find a balance and return home feeling recharged and refreshed!
Simple changes and simple choices can allow you to have a relaxing and enjoyable vacation while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Going for a walk each morning, eating two healthy meals a day, getting your friends and family involved can all lead to a healthier vacation, and enjoying guilt free treats each day.
With our trip to Texas around the corner, I’m starting to create a plan for our time there. I want to enjoy every second and to come home happy, recharged, and refreshed. Here are 5 easy tips for staying healthy on vacation.
1. Schedule out your workouts
Make workouts a part of your daily routine while on vacation. Schedule out a walk or run each morning, find a local fitness studio to try out, or make the most of the landscape (beach, mountains, etc.)
2. Find local restaurants with healthy meal options
You can find some really amazing local restaurants with healthy meal options if you search. Do your homework before your vacation and make a list of places to eat. You can look at their menu beforehand and get a sense of what you’d like to order. I love finding local smoothie cafes.
3. Choose between an appetizer or dessert
If you eat an appetizer, an entree, a dessert, and have drinks, the calories will add up. An easy change can be to choose between an appetizer and a dessert. Have one or the other. You can also do the same with drinks. Choose between drinks and an appetizer or dessert.
4. Create a #fitvacation
You can make a vacation as healthy as you want it to be, but fit vacations are becoming more and more popular. You can spend a week at a spa in Arizona, go hiking in the Rocky Mountains, or visit a health resort on the beach. Either way, choose to make your vacation a #fitvacation.
5. Find moderation in all things
Whether it’s drinking, eating, or spending time in the sun, find moderation in all things. You can find a healthy balance and return from vacation feeling recharged and refreshed.
