Saturday I attended an event at Chelsea Collective at Tyson’s Corner to see the new PUMA FENTY by Rihanna shoe and was able to talk to a fellow DC blogger for a little bit. She asked me how long I have been blogging and I had to stop and think. Can you believe I’ve been blogging here at Coffee Cake and Cardio for almost 5 years? Holy moly!
I think what’s crazier is to see how much my life has changed in 5 years. 5 years ago I was blogging about graduate school, my dating life, and experiences around the DC area. Today I’m a working mom who, in all honesty, is stretched a little too thin at times. Although I’ve got a good routine, it’s pretty draining and quite different than the life I lived 5 years ago.
The past few weeks have been really tough. They have been filled with a lot of self reflection, which I am grateful for, but there were some bad days thrown in there. I’ve always found joy in creating a balanced life but I think I’ve been so caught up in getting a gazillions things done for other people that I’ve forgotten to take care of myself. I’ve been reminded these past few weeks that I need to make myself a priority, even just through the little things.
Last weekend I chopped my hair off and said goodbye to blonde. I loved my long blonde hair, but I feel so much better with short hair and I was excited to go back to being a brunette. I also committed to blow-drying my hair and putting on makeup each day. Although it adds an extra 20 minutes to my morning, my self confidence has definitely gone up!
I bought some new make-up at Target and have LOVED this eye shadow palette by Maybelline! It has worked really well with my skin tone and new hair color. OH, and why did I wait so long to fill in my eyebrows? Game. Changer!!
Life at home has been great. We’re so in love with our new house and are putting things together slowly. We’re still saving our pennies for some big remodels, but we’ve started fixing a few things here and there. Neal and his dad hung these shelves in our kitchen and I look forward to changing up the decorations each season. I’m loving the Target Dollar Spot!!
This weekend we tackled our basement and will move on to our offices next! Can’t wait!!
Health and fitness wise, things have been ok. I can’t say I’m feeling great, but I think stress is really affecting me. My workouts have been awesome and I’ve really enjoyed the 6 week OrangeTheory challenge. Working out brings me so much joy and energy, so working out at OrangeTheory 3-4 times a week has been awesome.
Sadly I’ve been so busy, so I couldn’t really tell you what my full diet has been like. I share a lot on my Instagram, but obviously that isn’t everything. I can say though, this has been my favorite breakfast this month: Dave’s Killer Bread, raspberry jam, pepper jack, and eggs. Such a delicious breakfast sandwich!! Sweet, spicy, and oh so filling after a tough workout.
I’m still not dieting, and actually just re-listened to Intuitive Eating. I know that I never want to go on a diet again, but I also know that I need to work on listening to my body. I still battle emotional eating and eating more than my body needs. I’m a work in progress, but I’m so glad I’ve walked away from dieting.
All in all, it has been a rough few weeks. I’m trucking along and have learned a lot about myself these past few weeks. Next week I’m heading to Texas for spring break and it couldn’t come at a more perfect time! I can not wait to spend time with my closest friends and loved ones. I can not wait to spend time with my mom, sister, and best friends. It is going to be amazing. I can’t wait to be back home in Texas!!
Here’s to another week of growth and a new month! Happy leap day!
