It feels so good to be back into my groove of working out and eating well after having a cold. Resting and recovering was just what I needed, but I’m really excited to be focused on my new goals. For this first week of my Healthy Holidays Challenge, I’m focused on getting 7,500 steps a day and fueling my body.
Before I caught that cold, I was having a really hard time fueling my body on days that I went to Orange Theory. I strive to workout at Orange Theory 2-3 times a week, which I want to maintain, but I’ve learned that I have to eat more protein on the days I workout there. Eating before my 5AM workout isn’t feasible, but I knew I could find foods high in protein that I could eat right after my workout.
Nutritionists recommend eating 10-20 grams of protein within 60 minutes of a working out but I don’t usually have breakfast until after I shower and get ready for work. As a Skinnygirl Savvy Snacker, I was really excited to learn of the new Skinnygirl protein shakes. With 12g of protein, I knew I could grab one from the fridge, keep it in the car during my workout, and then enjoy it on my way home.
Monday and Wednesday I enjoyed shakes and they were just perfect post workout. I was worried they’d be too sweet, but they were really enjoyable right after my workout. They gave me the protein I needed and really made a difference in how I felt the rest of the day.
The new Skinnygirl Protein Tasty Nutrition Shakes will first be available at Walmart, but you’ll be able to find them in other stores soon. These shakes are ready to drink and come in 2 delicious flavors: Rich Chocolate Brownie and Vanilla Bean Sundae. Check out their nutritional stats: 80 calories, 0g sugar, 12g protein, Low Fat, Gluten Free, and are just $5.78 at Walmart for a 4-pack.
Once cleaned up and ready for the work day on Monday and Wednesday, I made myself an omelet, loading it up with veggies and a little cheese. I think having all that protein first thing in the morning after my workout helped to keep me balanced and energized throughout the day.
Skinnygirl also has newly reformulated Skinnygirl Protein Tasty Nutrition Bars, which are pack with more protein for less calories. Check out their nutritional stats: 150 calories, 10g protein, 5-7g Fiber, Gluten Free, and Kosher. You can find them at Walmart for $4.88!
All in all, I’m so happy with how I’ve turned things around this week! I’m looking forward to weighing in tomorrow and seeing how my first week of the Healthy Holidays Challenge has gone. Be sure to follow Skinnygirl on Facebook!
