Saturday was an absolutely magical day! After a long regular season and a grueling post-season, the DC Divas took on the Dallas Elite in the Women’s Football Alliance National Championship game in Los Angeles, CA.
After “sleeping in” until 5:30AM PST and blogging about our first day in Los Angeles, Neal and I headed over to Natureba Juice Bar for smoothies.
I ordered the Acai Berry Bowl with coconut, which was awesome!
After breakfast we headed back to the hotel and I relaxed until the oline team meeting and team lunch. After lunch I took a quick nap and then it was go time! Time to head to the stadium.
We settled into the locker room, warmed up on the practice field, geared up, warmed up again, came together as a team in the locker room, and then hit the field! You can read the full game recap here (written by my amazing husband Neal), but in one word, the game was intense.
The Divas were quick to score in the first quarter, but struggled to execute in the second half. It was the most challenging game of my career, but we won! As the clock hit zero we realized what we had achieved! We were champions!
It wasn’t a pretty game, but it was a battle won as a team! We were the 2015 WFA National Champion DC Divas!! I can’t express how proud I am of my team, the offense, and the oline. These women are my sisters on the field and it’s pretty amazing to win it all! Yesterday it really hit me that we’re champions and I’m sure the excitement will only grow this week.
We made it back home yesterday afternoon, leaving us enough time to bond with Magnolia after 3 days apart, wash our dirty clothes, relax a bit, and then prepare for the work week.
Thank you all for your support this season. It meant a lot to me!
