Our Father’s Day weekend started bright and early Saturday morning. Actually, now that I think of it, I’m pretty sure we were up before the sun. Saturday morning we ran the Fit Foodie 5K in Fairfax, VA, which was a blast!
After getting ready, waking Magnolia, and getting her ready, we headed over to Virginia for the 7:30AM race start. Having run the race last year, I was really happy to see the changes they had made to the race route and finishers village set up. The race was so organized this year!
Neal and I went into the race without a plan. I ran the first mile straight (12:33) and then walked up hills during mile 2 (12:59) and mile 3 (13:50). Mile 3’s time was off by a few minutes because we stopped to give a tired dog a bottle of water and to make sure he was ok. We were probably with the owners for about 5 minutes.
We finished the race in 40:50 according to my watch. Slow, but a lot of fun!
After the race we walked around the finishers village and hung out with some of the vendors. It was so good to see South Block Cafe, Cava, Canadian Maple Syrup, and Luna there!
Afterwards we walked over to Ted’s Bulletin for breakfast, which was outstanding! The perfect breakfast post run! We spent the rest of the day hanging out and watching the thunderstorms roll in.
Sunday morning we let daddy sleep in while we played dress up. Around 10AM we headed over to the Black Hills Regional Park for a long walk as a family and then hung out at home for the rest of the day. We watched baseball, played a lot, and made a delicious dinner for Neal. It was the perfect way to close out the weekend!
