Hello Coffee Cake and Cardio readers!
My name is Kelly and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be on Ashley’s blog today. When Ashley first asked me if I wanted to be a part of this series I jumped at the chance. I met Ashley through her blog in 2013, and while I had been reading her blog for months, I finally got up the courage to reach out to her to thank her for sharing her life with everyone and being such a motivating and inspiring individual. As someone who was struggling with fitness and healthy eating, I found Ashley to be honest and truthful about her journey and she helped kick start mine. After learning about AdvoCare, I joined Ashley’s team and it’s been a fun road since!
Currently, I am a full-time working professional in the Human Resources field. Don’t run! I promise I am super friendly and I work hard every day to ensure that the “HR” stigma is completely untrue! :) I work long hours, therefore my schedule can be pretty packed. On top of those long hours, I am a soon-to-be bride to this guy, my main squeeze, Tim!
We are getting married August of this year, so when I am not working I am busy making many decisions about the smallest and biggest of details. If you have ever planned a wedding and are as indecisive as I am, you feel my struggle in how many sleepless nights and extra time needed for wedding planning can cause. In the midst of all that, I am also working towards earning my Master’s Degree in Leadership and I have my own business with AdvoCare as an Advisor.
AdvoCare has really changed my life and the way that I eat, exercise, and make healthy choices each day, with a little bit of chocolate and wine added in, because…duh! Be sure to check out all of the great products AdvoCare has to offer.
I used to not eat breakfast and actually despised it at one point, what was I thinking?! After learning all of the benefits of eating breakfast, it is now one of my favorite meals! During the week, it can be difficult to make a hot breakfast with my busy schedule, so that is when I turn to AdvoCare’s Meal Replacement Shakes. 24 grams of protein is enough to get me through my mornings, especially on my days that begin at 5am to work out at 6am. It fuels my workout routines and the rest of my day!
Sometimes I keep it simple and just add water, which tastes great. Or, if I feel like mixing it up I add in some fresh fruit, pop it in my Ninja, and breakfast is served!
Around 9:30am to 10am is when my stomach starts rumbling and I like to have various snacks on hand because some days I want sweet, and some days I want savory. Today’s selection was savory and it hit the spot. Also, I try to buy and eat local when I can, did I mention I am from Michigan?
Around 12:30pm my stomach started rumbling again. This time I had an (unplanned) Tropical Smoothie Cafe Turkey & Avocado Sandwich. This was amazing and I highly recommend it. A bit high in calories and sodium, however they stopped by our office and offered free sandwiches, so I couldn’t say no. I picked what I thought would be the healthiest choice for me and I nailed it, if I do say so myself.
Between 2:30pm and 3:30pm I popped in some Skinnygirl Popcorn for a light and salty snack. This is a super quick snack, that won’t leave you super full or bloated for afternoon lulls. I want to add caution that you will have about three different co-workers stopping by your office to tell you how great it smells and lingering in hopes for a handful. While I am a very generous and friendly person, I won’t share my popcorn. Be sure you are prepared, you have been warned. ;)
As I mentioned before, my busy schedule does not allow for much wiggle room, so meal prepping goes a long way in our house. The night before I prepped and cut all of the veggies and protein needed to make a Crockpot Jambalaya recipe. On my way out the door this morning I threw it all in there on low for 8 hours and came home to this deliciousness and feeling like I could walk out my door onto Bourbon Street in Louisiana. With only about 320 calories per serving and double protein with shrimp and chicken sausage, you can’t go wrong.
Tim and I recently went on an impromptu visit to HomeGoods and found some amazing gluten-free lemon cookies by Wholesome Chow. I looked into them and I guess their line of cookies is new, but they have been around for a while with vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free baking goods. Check them out online, or find the cookies at your nearest T.J.Maxx, HomeGoods, or Marshalls. I am telling you, you will not regret this decision. There were more flavors, so I see another trip to the store in our near future. The cookies are not sold online yet, just FYI. I already looked into ordering a box….
And there you have it. A little about me and a day in the life of a busy Michigander and what goes into my tummy. I hope you enjoyed and maybe even found a new recipe or cookie to try!
