I’m always appreciative of the “ways to stay healthy while on vacation” tips but the reality is, I don’t really want to be consumed with my health and fitness goals while I’m traveling, vacationing, or spending time with loved ones. That said, I still try my hardest to make wise decisions while on vacation. I work out every day and eat as many vegetables as I can. In the end though, I think it’s important to be kind to yourself while on vacation and definitely after vacation!
I’ll be the first to admit that I indulged while on our cruise back in December. Although I worked out everyday, I know I ate more calories than I was burning thanks to all of the delicious eats! When I came back from our vacation I knew I had gained a little weight, but I had some amazing memories to go with those extra lbs. I knew the key was for me to get back on track and to give myself a clean slate post vacation… regretting my vacation was far from what I wanted!
The first thing I did was return to my workout routine and to get back to eating healthy foods. I focused on controlling my portions, eating at home, and getting my workouts in. Sometimes it’s really hard to get on track, especially after a week of indulging, but I know I’ll feel bad if I don’t get back to my healthier habits right after vacation.
This summer, make the most of the warmer weather and enjoy your vacations! Make healthy choices when you can, but give yourself a clean slate post vacation. Remember that every meal gives you an opportunity to have a clean start! If you enjoy a decadent breakfast, give yourself a clean slate for lunch and dinner. One meal doesn’t wreck your diet! Enjoy your summer!
