This weekend was really just perfect. Neal was in Iowa Wednesday through Sunday, so it was a great opportunity to get downtown, to spend time with girl friends, and to do some of my favorite spring things.
Saturday morning I met up with my dear friend Becky for the Race for the Cure 5K in downtown DC. I hopped on the metro at 6:15AM and met Becky in the city.
It was honestly quite overwhelming to see the survivors, friends, and family at the race. It is such an amazing community and I hope the money raised truly helps to find a cure!
Becky and I were there to walk with the New Balance team and to support the Race for the Cure!
It was an honor to meet New Balance’s celebrity trainer Holly Perkins before the race. Holly was such a doll and had such great advice about my pregnancy. Holly encouraged me to remember that this is just a season of life and not to be too hard on myself. It’s 10 months that can’t compare to any other period in life. It was great advice and something I needed to hear.
After the race kickoff Becky and I made our way to the start!
Becky and I walked the 5K, which was such a great decision. It was super hot and humid Saturday morning, so walking was just what the doctor ordered.
After the race Becky and I headed over to Ted’s Bulletin for breakfast.
Ted’s is known for their from scratch pop tarts, so I was excited to pick up a few for Neal after breakfast.
For breakfast I ordered the “Mark on an Off Day”, which included 2 scrambled eggs, 2 slices of bacon, hash browns, and a blueberry pop tart. Becky and I split the pop tart and then I tried a bite of her biscuits and gravy, which was awesome.
Sunday morning, after a quick walk with Theodore around our neighborhood, I enjoyed a hot cup of coffee on our patio before heading to the Olney Farmer’s Market. Neal and I decided not to sign up for our vegetable CSA this year, though we’re still getting an egg and fruit share, so I’ve been eager for the farmers markets to open back up.
When I arrived at the market the first person I saw was Rodney “The Pie Man” Henry, owner of Dangerously Delicious Pies. You might remember him from last season’s Next Food Network Star, but it was fun seeing him at the Olney market. He was incredibly nice and had me laughing.
I bought some awesome produce at the market including kale, two lettuces, spring onions, and strawberries.
I also bought a cherry pie for Neal, some jam, and a pint of spicy pickles.
After the farmers market I took Theodore for a 4 mile walk before picking up Neal from the airport. Sunday was a much cooler day than Saturday, so the walk was really enjoyable.
After picking up Neal from the airport we drove over to Clarendon to grab smoothies at South Block Cafe (my absolute favorite) and to do a little shopping at Trader Joes.
Once home I took a killer nap, ran to Giant for a few other groceries, and then cooked dinner for Neal and me. I simply boiled two chicken breasts for 20 minutes and roasted potatoes in the oven for 30 minutes. I then served the chicken over some of the farmer’s market greens with a little honey mustard and the potatoes on the side. It was simple and delicious!
I’m a little bummed it’s Monday already, but I’m looking forward to the week ahead and my 24th week of pregnancy. Just trucking along!
Don’t miss my big news from Saturday and all of my eats from week 23.
