The Bump –
Gender- Neal thinks we’re having a girl while I think we’re having a boy. We’ll see in ONE week! YAY!!
Movement- Nothing lately! I thought I was feeling flutters a few weeks ago, but nothing lately. For all I know the baby is kicking, but nothing is really distinct at the moment.
Maternity clothes- I finally found the sizes that work for me at Old Navy. For maternity, the XL and size 18 bottoms are perfect! For plus size a 1X fits perfect, but doesn’t give me much room to grow. I’m fine buying a 2X but everything so far has been too big in the chest. I’ll have to do a maternity wardrobe photo shoot for y’all soon.
Food cravings- I can’t say that I’m craving anything specific. I have been eating a lot of pickles lately, so I’m at least fulfilling the stereotype. My other favorite thing right now is lemon water! I go through 5-6 lemons a week at this point and can’t get enough.
Workouts- Last week was really great! I’ve continued swimming and have been taking really long walks. I didn’t go to the gym while in Canada last weekend, but we did some walking on Saturday which was great. I’m eager to get back to spin, so I may need to make that happen this week!
Sleep- Oh man y’all… I can’t say that I was all that concerned about being pregnant during the summer BUT after a few warm days, I’m getting a little worried about being too hot at night. Sunday night was my first warm night in our townhouse and I was struggling a little. I’m hoping to go without the AC for a few more weeks, but man, I need to be cool/cold in order to sleep well (I know, first world problems). Sunday night made me fear our electric bills this summer, but we’ll see how it goes. Otherwise, I’m sleeping great! I sleep through most of the night and end up waking up twice to go to the bathroom, usually around 2:30AM and 4:30AM.
Missing anything- My pre-pregnancy body. I know that sounds weird but I’ve just been feeling a little insecure these past few days. I was looking at pre-pregnancy photos and it was the first time I was like “MAN! I miss my body”. I’m thrilled to be pregnant and for the baby to be growing, but I can’t deny my eagerness to get back in shape come September.
Thoughts and feelings- Last week was a rough week. TMI but my digestive system went haywire in week 19 and my heartburn was really bad. Most of the week I literally felt like I had a lump in my throat, which I’ve been told is a side effect of heartburn and acid reflux. On top of that, I started dealing with round ligament pain, which is essentially my body’s reaction to my ligaments stretching and pulling to accommodate the growing baby. I’ve felt some pain here and there over the past month, but last week was my post challenge week so far. The pain started going up my sides, which was worrisome, but my doctor said it was normal.
As rough as last week was, I know that overall I’ve been very lucky! I haven’t dealt with morning sickness and my aches and pains have been minimal. I ended up going to the doctors Friday morning before heading to Canada, just to make sure everything was ok. It was a relief to know that the pains were normal and to be able to hear our baby’s heartbeat! It was beautiful, beautiful sound and just what I needed in that moment.
As I mentioned above, I’ve also been feeling a little insecure about my body the past week or so. My belly is definitely growing and some days I just feel pudgy and out of shape. I found myself in the comparison trap last week, seeing thinner pregnant woman who look like all they gained was a 7 pound baby. I have to remember that I started with more weight on me and my body is going through a lot of changes each week. I’m sure all pregnant women struggle at some point about the changes occurring, but it has definitely brought back insecurities I haven’t felt like high school and college.
Next week we have our 20 week appointment and anatomy scan, so we’re thrilled to see the baby again and to hopefully be able to find out the gender. I’m just ready to start preparing for the baby, to decorate the nursery, and to be in the second half of this pregnancy.
Looking forward to – Our anatomy scan next week!! Look out for a gender poll and giveaway later this week!
