As an AdvoCare advisor, I have had the opportunity to meet a number people who are as passionate about AdvoCare as I am. One of the people who has motivated and helped me to understand the benefits of AdvoCare the most is Dr. Todd Miller.
Dr. Miller is not only an AdvoCare advisor, but is also an Associate Professor of Exercise Science at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services in Washington, DC. As a doctor in the field of exercise science, Dr. Miller can speak to the positive effects of AdvoCare both from an academic and a personal perspective.
Today I was able to ask Dr. Miller a few questions about AdvoCare and am excited to pass his answers along to you!
How has AdvoCare impacted your life?
AdvoCare first impacted my life by giving me dramatic improvements in my health. After 5 months of product use I lost 20 lbs of fat and put on 10 lbs of muscle at 43 years old. I never thought those results would have been possible. My wife got equally impressive results on AdvoCare products.
At that point, everyone wanted to know what we were doing, and when we said “AdvoCare” people wanted to know how they could get products as well. It didn’t take long for us to realize there was a good business opportunity with AdvoCare. We decided to pursue the business and by 18 months in the business we were at an income level that averages about 82k / year. Heather was able to quit her sales job after 5 months in the business, and now she works AdvoCare full time.
How has the company changed in the last 20 years?
I remember when I was first exposed to AdvoCare in 1995 as a strength coach at Texas A&M University. They only had two products, and I didn’t give the company a second thought. When AdvoCare approached me 3 years ago to be on their Scientific and Medical Advisory Board, I was shocked at how the company had grown. AdvoCare now has over 70 products, hundreds of endorsers from every sport and nearly 400,000 distributors nationwide. They have television commercials on ESPN and sponsor major sporting events such as NASCAR and a college bowl game. AdvoCare is projected to be a billion dollar company in 2016- which is a far cry from what the company was in 1995. It’s a truly exciting time to be involved in AdvoCare.
What type of research do they do before making/distributing products – both initially, and ongoing?
I can say from my first hand experience on AdvoCare’s SciMed Board that there is a tremendous amount of work that goes into the design and formulation of AdvoCare products. Initially I was skeptical about advising for a supplement company, but after spending time with the other doctors doing ingredient research and learning about what’s involved in supplement production, I can say that I am 100% confident in the quality and safety of AdvoCare’s products. The docs on the Sci Med board are of the highest integrity and are extremely knowledgeable about safe and effective product design. AdvoCare also does extensive banned substance testing (more than any company in the world) using the Informed Choice program. This ensures that no athlete will ever have to worry about testing positive for a banned substance in any of AdvoCare’s Performance Elite products.
What is the primary purpose of the product and how successful are they? What is measurable or meaningful about the results?
Eighty percent of AdvoCare’s product sales come from the Trim Line, so weight loss seems to be the main focus. However, the company offers all kinds of nutritional products and can provide solutions for any health and fitness goal. I think the most meaningful and compelling results can be seen from the personal success stories of those who use the products. The professional athletes that use AdvoCare products do so simply because they work better than any other products available. There are thousands of stories of people who have lost weight and improved their health with the 24 Day Challenge, and there’s nothing more meaningful than that.
Why the 24 Day Challenge?
The 24 Day Challenge is a great way to get someone on the pathway to healthy eating habits. The herbal cleanse primes the body for nutrient absorption, while the Metabolic Nutrition System provides vitamins, minerals, probiotics, antioxidants, and a host of other factors necessary for optimal health. The OmegaPlex is great for cardiovascular health and the Spark energy drink improves mental focus and clarity with vitamins, minerals and amino acids. If a person needs to lose weight, the challenge is a great way to start, but even people who aren’t interested in weight loss still need the nutrition provided in the challenge.
What do you eat during the 24 Day Challenge? Do you restrict calories?
You should always eat a healthy diet that consists of lots of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats. You should not be hungry when doing the challenge and you do not need to be restrictive with calories. AdvoCare knows that any eating plan that forces you to walk around hungry all the time will not be sustainable, and any weight you’d lose on a program like that would be quickly gained back. The 24 Day Challenge is a sustainable, healthy lifestyle change, which serves as a starting point to healthy, long term weight loss.
What products do you recommend after the 24 Day Challenge concludes?
I recommend Spark and MNS at a minimum, and if possible, a meal replacement shake for breakfast. I don’t look at the 24 Day Challenge as something you do multiple times. I personally use Spark, MNS, and a Meal Replacement Shake every day, and have done so for the past 3 years. Every three months I’ll do the Herbal Cleanse, but I never stop using products.
What products do you recommend for someone who is not looking to lose weight?
As I said earlier, the 24 Day Challenge is really for everyone, but at a minimum, everyone should be doing Spark and MNS. They will provide anyone with great nutrition and energy, and will make up for most dietary inadequacies.
What products do you recommend for runners?
Every athlete is different and it’s impossible to make an umbrella statement about runners. However, there are products designed to help improve endurance activities like running. Those products would be Arginine Extreme, O2Gold and the VO2Prime Bar. Those products are mainly designed to increase oxygen delivery and consumption by muscle, thereby improving athletic performance. Rehydrate and Rehydrate Gel are also good choices during extremely long events or exercise in the heat.
Do you recommend different products or product combinations for various types of sports/activities?
There is a huge variation in the physical demands of different sports and AdvoCare makes products that can help all of these. I personally choose products for people based on their specific needs, and the possible combination of products is way too complex to go into detail here. This is why it’s important to work with someone who has specific product knowledge. Walking into your typical supplement retailer is a hugely daunting endeavor for the average person. Being able to work with an AdvoCare distributor makes the process of deciding which products to take much easier.
AdvoCare has made a huge impact on both Neal’s and my life, and I am so grateful to be able to ask questions such as these to someone so knowledgeable in the field. From taking Spark and Catalyst during football season, to taking on the 24 Day Challenge with Neal, and then training for the Army Ten Miler with the Performance line, AdvoCare has helped me to lose inches, regain confidence, and have the endurance to reach my goal of living a happy and healthy life.
