I am participating in a sponsored campaign hosted by Advil®, as a part of the Advil® Relief In Action campaign. I received compensation for this post. While all opinions stated are my own, I make no claims about Advil® as a product or its effectiveness.
In late 2009 I came across a flier for Team in Training while at Starbucks. It was my first time hearing about the training and fundraising program with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, but in that moment something told me I needed to learn more about it.
Mid October I attended an information session at a local high school and I was instantly impacted by the cause and all that Team in Training stood for. After scanning the list of upcoming races, I decided that I wanted to train for the 2010 Country Music Half Marathon while working to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Running a half marathon was an incredibly scary thought but as individuals at the information session shared about their experience fighting leukemia and lymphoma I couldn’t help but realize that the pain I may go through will never compare to the fight they have fought.
That day I signed up for the race and began to talk to friends and family about my fundraising goals for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Through those conversations I was baffled by how many of my friends and family knew someone affected by leukemia and/or lymphoma. I just had no idea how many people it had affected.
At each and every training run with Team in Training I met more and more people who had been affected by leukemia and lymphoma. Their strength helped me each and every mile and helped me to connect with every dollar I was able to raise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Running the Country Music Half Marathon was one of the greatest moment in my life so far. Knowing that each and every step was for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helped remind me to not let the pain from running stop me from reaching my goal. I knew that with each mile I was providing relief for those in need!
I knew that in some form or fashion my strength to run the race had helped to relieve the pain and suffering of others through all that the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society does! I had always wanted to run a race, but training for it through Team in Training was amazing!
Today, there are hundreds of races that give runners the opportunity to support non-profits through fundraising and activism. I love hearing about other people’s experiences with Team in Training or those who have volunteered through other amazing non-profits. There are just so many amazing volunteer opportunities out there! Whether it’s building homes for people in need through Habitat for Humanity® International, running for a cause, or supporting those in ones’ community, Advil® is honoring volunteers who actively give back through the Advil® Relief in Action campaign.
The Advil® Relief in Action campaign honors and supports people who don’t let pain get in the way of helping others. Along with sharing volunteer’s amazing stories through #ReliefinAction, a portion of the price of participating Advil® bottles will go to Habitat for Humanity® International and Wounded Warrior Project® so their volunteers can get the relief they need, and get back to giving back.
You can Follow @ReliefinAction on Twitter and Instagram. Volunteering is so empowering and provides endless joy both to those volunteering and to those in need. I am so grateful for my experience with Team in Training and how it opened my eyes to providing Relief in Action! Thinking back on my experience makes me eager to find a new way to help those in need.
