This was definitely an “I could use just one more day” kind of weekend, but it was nice to disconnect a little and enjoy the time away from the hustle and bustle of the work week.
Saturday I did a Turbo Fire workout, went to a doctors appointment, attended an AdvoCare mixer, took a glorious nap, had dinner at Gilly’s with Katy, and watched the Nationals play 15 innings of baseball.
Yesterday was a little mellower, starting the day off with a long run in Rock Creek Park. I put on my heart rate monitor, mixed up my AdvoCare Spark, and headed over to the trail.
Unlike my other training runs, I decided to run yesterday using my Gymboss timer. Although I’ve been able to run 4 miles without stopping, I felt that using the run/walk method was best for yesterday’s 5 mile run.
The trail was just gorgeous yesterday, and although it was raining, I loved running through the woods.
I ran the first mile straight through and then used the run/walk method for miles 2-5. I ended up running for 2 minutes and walking for 30 seconds, which worked really well for me.
The final mile was the toughest for me, but run/walk really helped me to push through it. Knowing that I just had to run 2 minutes at a time helped me to think beyond my soreness.
I ended up running 5.34 miles in 1:08:49
Mile 1: 11:25.9
Mile 2: 11:58.7
Mile 3: 12:00.0
Mile 4: 11:45.2
Mile 5: 11:35.8
Cool Down: 04:33.9
It wasn’t my smoothest run by any means, but it went by quickly. I can’t believe we’re already at 5 miles in our training, but I’m really looking forward to getting up to 8 miles. I love it when 5, 6, and 7 miles becomes easy.
Neal and I ended our weekend with a lovely dinner at Volt Range… but more on that later! All in all it was a great weekend and I’m really grateful for the run I got in yesterday.
