Yesterday I had a life changing experience meeting with DC sport nutritionist and Registered Dietitian Rebecca Scritchfield.
Having met with more dietitians than I care to recount, I didn’t know what to expect going into my appointment with Rebecca. Would I walk away feeling worthless? Would I walk away with any sort of direction? Would I be any closer to reaching my goals because of our meeting?
I was really nervous leading up to it but the moment I walked through the door I knew it was going to be different. Rebecca was so down to earth and took an approach that was WORLDS different than all of the dietitians I had met with in the past.
Rebecca started off by asking me about my goals and where I’d like to be. I went on to share that although I haven’t weighed below 200 as an adult, I have 180 pounds stuck in my head. Why 180?? I have no idea.
I quickly realized that my reasons for wanting to weigh 180 or less stem from societies judgement and what society says “healthy” is. Who’s to say that me at 201 pounds isn’t healthy??
Rebecca’s philosophy is centered on “health at every size”. She works with clients to accept the diversity in body shapes and sizes, to promote all aspects of health and well-being, to encourage life-enhancing physical activity, and to embrace eating in a manner than balances all needs.
Not that the concept was new to me but having someone so passionate about their work share how important it is not to diet, to focus on your health and well-being, and to accept where your body ends up as you make healthy changes was incredibly impactful.
I have LOTS to share about my first session with Rebecca and hope that you’ll stick with me as my thoughts are ALL OVER the place. I am excited about what my future holds and the changes I’ll be making, but I’m also incredibly scared. I’m really good at failing and I just want so badly to make life long changes now. I want to start living a life beyond weight loss!
