Union Market DC

After a wonderful Saturday morning, Neal and I headed to Northeast DC to visit Union Market.  Union Market, which dates back to the late 1800’s, resides in a historical area of Washington, DC.

Union Market has had many different looks over the years, but the market that stands today is vibrant, diverse, and full of culture!

Neal was beaming well before we walked through the doors as the market is located on Neal Place, NE.

Union Market, open Wednesday through Sunday, is full of various vendors, restaurants, and store fronts.

Edens, who developed Union Market, was kind enough to walk me through the market and to share the history of the venue and the vendors within its walls.  First stop, Peregrine Espresso for an iced coffee.

The list of vendors is extensive and I loved seeing shops such as Mama Organic…

A number of the vendors offer week day lunch specials, which is great for those close to the market or those looking for a week day lunch spot.  $7 for these lunches is just amazing.

Union Market DC Lunch

For a late lunch, Neal and I ordered tacos from Takorean.

We were first introduced to Takorean at Truckeroo but the line was outrageous so we passed.  Takorean has its first store front in Union Market, which is great for those who don’t want to chase a food truck or wait in crazy lines.

I ordered the 3 tacos (tofu, beef, and chicken) which were out of this world.  Korean tacos??? So delicious!

Our last stop of the day was at Buffalo and Bergen for an egg cream… yes, an egg cream!  An egg cream is a drink made with cream, soda water, and vanilla syrup and originates from Brooklyn, NY.

Neal read about this drink a few weeks ago in the daily newspaper and was determined to try one out on Saturday.  It tastes a lot like melted ice cream, and although it wasn’t really my thing, Neal loved it!

Neal and I had a wonderful time at Union Market and are looking forward to our next trip there!  The market has a number of event each month, bringing different opportunities and activities to Northeast DC.

Union Market DC Upcoming Events

Union Market is a short walk from the New York Ave metro station and just over a mile from Union Station.  Starting this summer, you can also catch a Union Market shuttle to and from the metro!

So whether you live in the DC area or are looking for something off the beaten path while on vacation here, I highly recommend Union Market!  It’s the perfect place to grab fixins for dinner, enjoy a glass of wine with a girlfriend, or to go on a hot date any time of year!!
