I’m not going to lie, yesterDAY stunk! Sunday night I set my cell phone alarms for 6AM and 6:10AM as I had an 8AM appointment with my chiropractor in DC. At 7AM I was startled awake by Neal’s alarm, completely unaware as to whether or not my alarms had actually gone off.
Panicked by the time and the fact that I had to be downtown in less than an hour, I threw my work clothes into a bag, put on some workout clothes, and hopped into my car.
Now I hardly ever drive into work because DC traffic can be so hit or miss. Well yesterday was a miss. As soon as I hit the highway I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Thankfully I had a hot cup of coffee to sip on and some great tunes to jam out to. The rest of the day was blah but thankfully I had a birthday celebration to attend after work, which totally turned the day around!
After work, I headed down to Friendship Heights for Becky’s birthday dinner at Volt Range.
We kicked the celebration off with a bottle of Riesling. Sweet and refreshing all at the same time!
To start, we ordered the bakers basket because uh, could you have decided between all of these breads?? I will say though, the cheddar-jalapeno biscuits with the bacon marmalade was amazing!! I highly recommend those two.
For dinner, the 4 of us ordered 5 small plates. The waiter recommended 3 small plates per person (12 in our case), but because the bread was so filling and we had planned on dessert, we figured we’d start with 5 plates and go from there.
We ordered the asparagus pizza…
Loaded mashed potatoes…
and the rib eye.
For dessert, we shared the deconstructed apple crisp…
and the chocolate and banana bread pudding.
A glass of sparkling wine was the perfect way to close out a perfect celebration of Becky’s birthday! I highly recommend Volt Range, especially for a special occasion. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service is exceptional! We had a blast!
Becky is an absolutely dear friend of mine and I loved celebrating with her! Becky and I met while training for the Country Music Marathon back in 2010 through Team in Training. We have been friends ever since and I am beyond grateful for her!
Though the day started off rough, celebrating with Becky and our friends made it an incredibly sweet day. I always appreciate days that turn around like that!
What’s your favorite way to celebrate your birthday?
