I kid you not, Neal and I have had this ice cream machine for almost 2 years now and we’ve yet to use it… until Monday!
Monday night I whipped up a batch of plain non-fat Greek frozen yogurt using three ingredients!! You read that right THREE ingredients!
- 32 oz plain Greek yogurt (I used 0%)
- One pint fat free half and half
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 15 drops of Sweetleaf liquid stevia (If you want to sweeten it)
To start, combine Greek yogurt and half and half in a large bowl.
To that whisk in the vanilla extract…
and the Sweetleaf liquid stevia. As I was using plain Greek yogurt I wanted to bring in a sweetness without changing the flavor of the yogurt or adding in a gazillion calories.
Lastly I added the yogurt mixture to my ice cream maker and let her rip! Note that you can still make this without an ice cream maker. You’ll just want to pour the mixture into shallow containers and freeze until it reaches desired consistency. I would recommend stirring occasionally.
Now I do recommend watching this ice cream closely. It’ll turn pretty quickly, after about 15 minutes, so you’ll want to turn off the machine after it reaches your desired consistency. I churned mine for 20 minutes.
Now what I love about this recipe is that it’s a base recipe and can be used to create a ton of Greek frozen yogurt recipes. You could swap out the plain Greek yogurt for a flavored one or add in flavored stevia drops as I did.
Before adding in my flavorings I divided the Greek frozen yogurt into two containers and then flavored each one from there. To one container I added vanilla creme drops to taste (about 10) and to the other I added hazelnut drops. They were both so amazingly delicious!
The yogurt freezes hard so you do need to allow to rest before serving it. I really think this recipe is best to serve right away because I love the soft serve constancy, but it tastes just as great after being frozen.
To the vanilla creme yogurt I added some rainbow sprinkles, adding the perfect touch and sweetness.
I absolutely love this recipe and have a lot of other ideas up my sleeve.
I’m thinking mint chocolate chip, orange chocolate chip, cookie dough, and any fruit combo. The sky is really the limit!
