On Friday morning Neal and I headed into Washington, DC, not for work but for a day of sightseeing. A Washington DC Staycation!!
Neal and I have both lived in DC for quite some time now but we both agreed that we want to make more of an effort to get downtown, to soak up the history, and to make the most of the Capital we live in.
Our first stop was the US Capitol. The US Capitol Visitor’s Center is a wonderful and FREE way to see the inside of the Capitol. The guided tour takes you into the depths of the US Capitol and gives you a sneak peek of the beautiful and wonder the building holds.
The Capitol Dome was by far my favorite part of the tour. The history started at the floor and reached all the way to the top of the dome. The paintings and architecture are just beautiful!
The Capitol Visitor Center also connects to the Library of Congress through a tunnel, which we took advantage of.
The Library of Congress is just beautiful. I think it’s one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve been in here in DC.
After our tour of the Capitol and Library of Congress we walked back over to the Capitol grounds for a walk before going to lunch.
While on the grounds we ran into none other than Ron Artest. Not exactly a celebrity in my eyes, but it was fun playing Citizen Reporter for a moment via Twitter.
For lunch we headed over to We The Pizza. Neal and I have been wanting to try it for quite some time now. Though the pizza looked AMAZING, I decided to head over to Sweetgreen for a salad instead of giving into my pizza cravings. It was a tough decision, but I’m glad I went for something healthy instead.
After lunch we walked down to the US Botanical Gardens. I LOVE LOVE LOVE gardens, flowers, and the like. It just makes me happy!
Our last stop of the day was the Old Post Office Building. We enjoyed the long walk to the Old Post Office, walking past the Capitol, Reflecting Pond, and then down Pennsylvania Ave.
The Old Post Office Building looks to be Donald Trump’s next purchase, so it may look a little different the next time we go in.
The inside of the building is NOTHING to look at, but the tower provides amazing views! It’s worth the sketchy ride to the top.
Neal and I had a fantastic staycation and have decided to do it more often. Sometimes you just need a day off and to stay put instead of traveling. It was exactly what we needed!
