Yesterday for lunch I ran down to the salad bar at my work. Some days my packed lunch just isn’t appealing so it’s nice that there are some healthy options nearby. Subway is usually my go to when I forget my lunch but the Greens salad bar is a place I always forget about.
I ordered the large salad, starting with musclun. To the lettuce I added carrots, chickpeas, green onions, and grilled chicken.
Although the salad dressings sounded amazing I decided to go with good old balsamic vinegar (at a friends recommendation). I love salad dressing but it is a lot of added calories, and quite often, fat.
The salad was bright and full of flavor, just what I needed!! It kept me full all afternoon and even through my evening Fitness Glo workout.
I’ve been having a difficult time since the beginning of the year wrapping my head around my diet, how my own body works, and my fitness level. On one hand, I haven’t lost a whole lot of weight for far this year. On the other hand, I’m working out a lot and am playing professional football. It’s a weird mix of emotions.
At a doctor’s appt a few weeks ago the doctor told me that I shouldn’t expect to lose weight while playing football. In my head I was like, “yeah whatever. I’ll be burning so many calories that it’ll melt off” but you know what, it has been hard.
What I’m trying to wrap my brain around is how much food (calories) my body actually needs to function and then how many calories I burn through all my workouts. I’ve been given some different advice and think it’s a good time to get some metabolic testing done.
Some weeks, my weight gain or my weight maintenance frustrates me. It doesn’t make sense after looking back on what I’ve eaten and how much I’ve worked out. It’s just that… it doesn’t make sense. I think it’d be helpful to have a better understanding of how my body works and the science behind it instead of just being at a loss. I haven’t decided what my next steps are but I’ve been doing a lot of research and am still determined to break this stinkin plateau!!
