in Our Family

A Texas Christmas

Bright and early Monday morning Neal and I headed to the airport for our flight to Texas. I was in great need of a holiday in Texas, so I was incredibly thankful when Neal and I finalized our plans to be with my family this year. Last Christmas was quite a disaster, so I couldn’t wait to get Texas this year.

On Christmas Eve, my family has the tradition of making appetizers for dinner, watching movies, and playing games.  My favorite appetizer this year were my mom’s homemade stuffed mushrooms.

Homemade Stuffed Mushrooms

  • Saute 1lb of turkey Italian sausage with 1/2 of a finely chopped onion.
  • To the cooked meat add 1tsp of Italian seasoning, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add 1/3 cup of Italian bread crumbs, 1/4 cup mozzarella, and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese to the cooked sausage. If too dry add olive oil.
  • Stuff mushroom caps with stuffing and bake at 400 for 15 minutes. Enjoy!!

After dinner we watched “Meet Me In St. Louis” (I feel asleep as usual) and snuggled up in our new PJ’s.  After my brother Paul arrived from Las Vegas, us kids stayed up late catching up.

Christmas morning I woke up early to take care of Theo.  While I waited for everyone to wake up, I opened up my stocking.  My sister got me some adorable goodies and some awesome gift cards!

While my mom cooked breakfast, we watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  My mom made a delicious breakfast including a frittata, a fruit salad, and turkey sausage and gravy.

After breakfast we opened up presents.  I got some awesome gifts including Redskins slippers,

and some adorable clothes from Ann Taylor Loft!

Mid afternoon we continued our traditions and headed to the movies to see This is 40.

A bowl of my Mom’s Potato soup, a piece of homemade bread, and an early bedtime closed out the day.

It was an absolutely perfect Christmas day!!
