A few weeks ago I participated in a FitBlog chat that really made me think. Most weeks we talk about our favorite workouts, reasons for wanting to get into shape, and the steps we are taking to get fit. That week however, there were some really intense questions on the agenda.
Here are the 4 questions and my responses to them during the FitBlog chat…
Q1. If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your parents on the day you were born?
A1 – DO NOT REWARD ME WITH FOOD! It’ll create horrible habits that she’ll battle daily.
Q2. What advice, health or otherwise, would you give your teenage self?
A2 – That food is not going to make you feel better. Powerlifting is, so keep kicking a$$.
Q3. What advice would you give yourself one year ago today?
A3 – Go ahead and move in with your boyfriend despite others opinions. They’ll be ok and you’ll save a lot of money.
Q4. You visit yourself one year from today, what happens?
A4 – I am the fittest I have ever been and I’m joyful about life!!!!!
It’s challenging to read over these questions and to reflect on what my answer was. My answers to questions 1, 2, and 4 remain the same but if I had to answer 3 again I would say “Stay true to you are, love yourself, and do not allow others to pull you away from your drive for life and goals”.
Now question 4 is a big one. Over the past 4 weeks I’ve really been thinking about how I am going to reach my goal of being the fittest I have ever been and being joyful about my life in one year. Creating a 28 by 28 list has helped me a lot this past year and I will probably create a 29 by 29 list come October 16. Amazingly enough, some doors have opened over the past week that I never would have thought possible. These opportunities have helped me to see the path forming in front of me.
As a FitFluential Ambassador, I have been given an amazing opportunity to attend The 2012 Runner’s World Half Marathon & Festival Weekend October 19-21 in Bethlehem, PA. The weekend, which is open to anyone, will include:
- Seminars
- Appearances by three-time Olympian Shalane Flanagan
- Live music
- Various running films
- A prerace dinner with Runner’s World editors
- A 10K, 5K, and kids races (Saturday)
- A Half marathon – 13.1 miles (Sunday)
I love that this race weekend is filled with so many amazing opportunities. The fact that it’s located in Northeastern PA, in the middle of October when the leaves are changing colors just fills me joy!
Am I nervous?? You bet, but you know what, I can do this and I will do this. I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity and to have an amazing race on the horizon! In all honesty, I’m toying with the idea of signing up for the half marathon, but the 10K is probably the wisest decision.
Now here’s the fun part. The Runners World Half Marathon and Festival has provided me with a discount code that you can use when you register to receive 10% off!! The 10% off is for any race, 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, or any combination of 1, 2 or all three races (called the hat trick) during this inaugural event.
Register HERE and use code BLOGGER33 at checkout to receive the discount!
Some times the scariest part is signing up, but the exhilaration that comes from setting a goal, working towards that goal, and crossing the finish line is well worth it all!
I hope to see you all there!!! Please let me know if you’ll be running. I’d love to meet up with y’all at some point during the weekend. Maybe grab a post race drink!?!
