Friday was another great day for me this week. Woke up, showered, grabbed ice coffee, some breakfast and headed out the door. As Neal and I were driving up to Philly for the Healthy Living Summit, we both left work a little early to get a jump on the traffic.
At 3:30PM, the traffic was heavy but what you’d expect for a Friday afternoon commute. We made it around the beltway with no delays but then started to hit stop and go traffic when we arrived in Baltimore… and then the rains came. We drove through some LEGIT thunderstorms. I actually don’t mind driving in thunderstorms. I think it’s fun (is that weird?).
Although we were a little behind schedule at this point, we did stop for gas and I grabbed some Starbucks (iced coffee with half and half). The drive to Wilmington was like chasing a double rainbow! This rainbow was in front of us the whole time! It was kinda cool having the dark clouds ahead of us and the bright sun behind us.
AND THEN WE HIT DELAWARE COUNTY!!
Sadly, a tanker truck overturned on I-95 which created a hazmat situation. This shut down all lanes in both directions.
The traffic from the accident started at exit 1 and we were being forced to get off at exit 8… not too bad right? It’s only about 8 or so miles (estimating). Well 2 hours later as we sat by exit 6 and the clock hit 9PM, I realized that attending the HLS cocktail party was probably unlikely.
Neal was tired and I was sad and bored…
This was my attempt at a french braid.
We hit exit 8 around 10:30PM, 7 hours after we left DC. Crazy huh? The drive to Philly is usually a little over 2 hours. Granted we stopped, but still.
Now we are happily in our hotel room and I am thrilled to attend HLS today!! Neal will be in the room writing his next book and is looking forward to writing somewhere other than his home.
