This morning we had our baby’s anatomy scan and I was so incredibly excited and nervous all at the same time! This pregnancy has been so different from my pregnancy with Magnolia and yet in many ways so similar. Since finding out we were pregnant and battling first trimester nausea, my mommy instinct was that we were having a boy because those weeks were so different than my first trimester with Magnolia. As the nausea passed and I settled into the second trimester, I started to think and feel as though we were having a girl. I was re-energized, my started breaking out, and I felt a lot more like myself.
As I went into today’s scan, I had no real sense of what we were having and was just thrilled to see the baby and to learn more about it. Earlier in this pregnancy I bought a baby heart rate monitor. I didn’t buy one for my first pregnancy, but I’ve really enjoyed listening to the heart a few times a week. I listened to the heart rate before leaving this morning, mainly to take the edge off. I feel like I’ve had a lot more fear this pregnancy, but that’s for a whole other blog post.
The baby was head down when we first started the scan and we quickly got a great view of the baby’s arms, hands, head, and torso. The baby didn’t want to open its legs at first, so we didn’t find out the gender until later in the scan. As the baby moved, we got a more traditional view of the baby and it was just breathtaking!
We are so very thrilled to share that we are having a baby boy! The ultrasound technician told us towards the end of our scan and my eyes were instantly filled with tears. I am so incredibly excited to be expecting a boy and for Magnolia to have a baby brother. I am the oldest of 4 and have two younger brothers and I’m so excited for Magnolia to share the experiences I had having brothers. I think she’ll love having a brother!
My next OBGYN appointment is next week and then we’ll head on into the second half of this pregnancy. I pray often and take no day for granted. I am praying for this baby, for his growth, and for a full term pregnancy. Everything has been great so far and the scan today was really good! The baby is healthy, growing at a great rate (11 oz today), and is sitting comfy.
Thank you all for your messages and comments today on Instagram and Facebook. We’re really excited and are so thankful for this pregnancy.
