Recap of Last Week
Last week was long. There were a lot of highs and plenty of lows between the election, protests at work, and conference and NCAA tournaments. I already talked about the lows, but here were some of the highs from last week…
After the leaves fall, we have a beautiful view of the lake all winter long. Last week I took some time to move furniture around and to set up this seating area in our built-out. I had one chair there, but now with two chairs, it’s the perfect coffee nook. I’m still looking for the perfect piece of furniture to use as a coffee station, but our kitchen/dining room/built-out area is really coming together. I’m really wanting to paint the kitchen, so we’ll see if that’s something I can get done over the winter break.
Last week I also decided that it’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit, at least not this year. I’m usually a “enjoy Thanksgiving and THEN shift towards Christmas”, but after all the negativity and hate this week, I started listening to Christmas music during my commute and even put up our tree.
Originally, we were planning to go to a Christmas tree farm after Thanksgiving and to go the real tree route. In the end, I don’t think that’d be the best idea for our family/house/pooch, so we bought this beautiful tree at Costco on Saturday. I LOVE it! I’m not going to decorate it until after Thanksgiving, but I love having it up and turning on the lights in the evening. It’s beautiful!
Last week was a huge week for our sports programs at work. It was amazing supporting our athletes in their conference tournaments, at the NCAA tournament, and to cheer on the basketball teams as they started their seasons on Friday. The men had such an amazing game again Maryland on Friday! It was awesome! It was heartbreaking to see our men’s soccer team lose yesterday, but they had an outstanding season.
I’m also thankful for all the time I had with family last week. Our evenings were filled with lots of joy and laughter and we had a wonderful weekend!
On the health and fitness front, I had a pretty good week! My weight stayed the same, which was great. I did an ok job of tracking. I tracked everything I ate during the work week, including two meals out at Mexican restaurants last week, but I didn’t do a great job of tracking this weekend. We ate at home all weekend, but I just didn’t do a good job of tracking. Prepping foods on Sundays and drinking smoothies with this NOW Foods Plant Protein Complex has really helped me stay on track during the week. I still struggle with maintaining structure on weekends, but it’s something I’m working on.
My workouts were great and I even got an extra OrangeTheory workout in on Sunday. Normally I just go on Mondays and Fridays. Adding in the Sunday workout was nice, especially because it wasn’t at 5AM. All in all, last week was a good week. I’m only working a few days this week and then I’m off work until after the Thanksgiving holiday. I’m really excited to take so much time off and to spend time with my family.
The Week Ahead
My plan was to roast sweet potatoes and to cook quinoa last night, but I fell asleep on the couch while watching 60 minutes. I was a little bummed when I woke up at 11PM, but only because the night got away from me, but also because I missed The Walking Dead. I know what I’ll be watching tonight!
I have some leftover spaghetti squash and turkey taco meat, so I’m going to pack that for lunch today and then prep the potatoes and quinoa tonight for the rest of the week. I’m all set for my breakfasts, eggs, turkey sausage, and smoothies, and have meat defrosting for dinners. I’ve been craving salads, so this week I’m going to make salads for dinner and then top them with the protein I’ve made that night.
