Baby Prep – Last week I went a little Amazon crazy. I think Amazon Prime and I are going to be the best of friends after the baby arrives! It was so great being able to buy things like nursing pads from the comfort of my couch and to have them arrive the next day!
Mommy Prep – Oh man y’all, I have been having a lot of fun shopping for myself lately. I will share everything with y’all later this week but I’m feeling quite pampered and ready for this next chapter these days. It’s amazing how things like a new robe can make a pregnant lady feel.
Maternity clothes – I haven’t bought any new maternity clothes during the third trimester but last week I was on a quest to find an outfit for my maternity photos. I really struggled because plus size clothes don’t always show off the belly and then maternity clothes don’t always come in my size. I did find a cute dress but I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to wear it or something else in my closet. I can not wait to share my maternity photos by Stefanie Harrington with y’all!
Food cravings – No real cravings. Honestly I’ve been eating pretty much like I use to before I was pregnant, just more often. I feel best when I have a a hearty breakfast, mid-morning snack, veggie filled lunch, late afternoon carbohydrate filled snack, and a yummy dinner. Sugar cravings weren’t as intense last week, whoop whoop, so that was good! Neal and I did go on a spontaneous date last Wednesday in between doctor’s appointments which was a lot of fun! I do enjoy a good cheese filled dinner, but what’s new?
Workouts – During week 33 I went to two spin classes (Thursday and Sunday) and went for a number of walks. My weightlifting has been non-existent, but I’m feeling good with what I’m doing.
Symptoms – Here’s a new one for y’all… Charley horses! For whatever reason I started getting charley horses in my calves last week and boy are they brutal. I’m drinking tons of water, staying active, and stretching, so I’m not too sure what’s to blame. I have since read online that it’s not uncommon for pregnant women to get charley horses during the second and third trimester, which is crazy. They really are the worst! Otherwise I’m still dealing with wicked heartburn, but that’s about it.
Sleep – Thanks to the charley horses, I haven’t been sleeping all that well. They startle me awake and then I have a really hard time getting back to bed. I’m still going to bed at a reasonable time (if 10:30 or 11 is reasonable), but I’m not sleeping through the night as well as I had been.
Doctors Appointments – Last week we had a few appointments including a pre-natal appointment and hospital tour. We’ve found the pediatrician we’re going to work with after the baby arrives, so we’re pretty happy about that!
Thoughts and feelings – Week 33 was a pretty good week but boy am I starting to feel the weight of the baby! Each week my pregnancy updates through various websites emphasize how little room the baby is working with these days, but last week was the first week I really felt like the baby was outgrowing her space. Bending over has became more of a challenge, which is a little funny. Whether it’s picking up something off the floor or leaning forward to eat, my belly is definitely starting to “get in the way”. On an awesome note though, I feel the baby all the time now. Sometimes I feel like I’m on the first drop of a roller coaster with the flips she’s doing in there, but it’s really quite magical. Though I’m thrilled to meet our daughter, I will miss the connection of having a baby growing inside of me. It’s very special.
Baby prep has been pretty intense this month. I’m really determined to get almost everything done by August 1, that way we’re “ready to go” in case the baby decides to arrive early. Everything last week was medical focused, but I’m really glad we have just about everything lined up for our delivery and newborn care.
Weight wise I’m honestly feeling great! This pregnancy has made me realize that I’m way too hard on myself, so I’m working to be really kind to myself these last 7 weeks. Although I wasn’t at my goal weight before getting pregnant, I’ve realized just how fit I was last fall and winter and I’m excited to get back to that place after the baby is born! I’m definitely excited about this next chapter and the opportunity I have to get back into shape, but I want to enjoy being pregnant while I’m still pregnant.
I’m still weighing myself every couple of weeks just to keep track, but I know I have to focus on what I can control. I am still within the weight gain range I set for myself with my doctor but I know the baby is going to gain what she needs to gain these last few weeks before she arrives. If I exceed my goal, it is what it is!
Overall, Neal and I are doing really great. We have a few things we need to do before August 1st rolls around but we’re pretty ready. We’re excited to bust out these last few projects and then to enjoy our last few weeks as DINKS (Dual Income No Kids). I think we’re going to miss aspects of it just being us, but we’re so excited to be parents and to start this next chapter. For as slow as pregnancy feels
most some of the time, it’s hard to believe we’re getting close to the final stretch! — Here’s 13 weeks vs 33 weeks.
