This week has been a roller coaster. After fighting a cold these past few weeks, Magnolia took a turn this weekend which landed us in the hospital Monday. We’ve been here ever since, as Magnolia was diagnosed with pneumonia.
Watching your baby get poked and prodded is just about the most horrible thing, but I’m so glad she’s in good hands and that she has a short term memory. I know she won’t remember any of this, but it still hurts to see her in so much pain.
We’re hoping to make it home soon for many reasons, one being that today is Neal’s 35th birthday!
Although I mention Neal here on Coffee Cake and Cardio often, I don’t think I express enough how amazing he is. Neal is such a kind and humble Iowa boy and Magnolia and I are lucky girls. While you never want to see your husband in the situation we’ve been in this week, it has melted my heart to see him care for his daughter. Neal is a hard working man, passionate about sports, madly in love with our pooch Theodore, and heck, he puts up with me.
Although “birthday week” hasn’t gone as planned (and poor Neal doesn’t have the best birthday track record), I did complete one project Monday morning while Magnolia was sleeping (before things went south). Since we moved into our townhouse, Neal has talked about turning the basement into a space where he can write and relax. I have a few spaces in the house to call my own so I really wanted to give him the basement he’s been talking about.
The basement up until Monday was really more like a storage space for random pieces of furniture. Although it housed a lot of his Hawkeye stuff, it wasn’t the man cave he was hoping for.
I started by moving the couch to the back wall in order to open up the space. I then shifted various bookshelves around, upgraded the TV, and bought a new desk/table at IKEA. Hanging a few of Neal’s Iowa frames brought the whole room together!
Although my original plan was to reveal it to him today, Neal had to see it early as we scrambled to pack things for the hospital. Though he hasn’t had time to soak it in just yet, he said he loves it and can’t wait to spend more time in the man cave! My hope is that we can celebrate Neal’s birthday more when we get home and maybe push birthday week into next week.
Thank y’all for all your kind words on Instagram on Monday. It has been a long week but we’re doing well. Just taking care of our beautiful Magnolia.
Happy Birthday Neal!!! Magnolia, Theodore, and I love you so!
