WOW! I honestly can’t believe that I’m due with our second baby in 11 weeks! As slow as some of these weeks have gone, baby boy’s due date is really right around the corner. I’m very hopeful he’ll stay put until July, and I have no reason to think he’ll come early, but that still only leaves us with about 11 weeks to prepare.
Preparing for a second baby is quite different than preparing for a first. In many ways, our preparation is more about preparing our 2 year old, our house, and our routine for the addition of a little baby. Up until last week, I didn’t really have a fire under my butt to get ready for our baby’s arrival. Between the arrival of May/end of the school year and my doctor’s reminder that I’ll now have appointments every two weeks, I’ve realized that it’s time to get organized and to start knocking things off my to do list.
Well… step one was creating a to do list! I honestly didn’t have one. I knew I needed to move Magnolia to her big girl room, wanted to set up the nursery, and needed to get all of our baby gear out of storage, but I hadn’t really written out all that I want to accomplish before the baby arrives.
Everything I hope to accomplish ended up falling into 6 categories: For the Baby, For Magnolia, Around the House, In the Office, Things to Buy, and My Own Self Care. One thing I know, looking back on my first pregnancy, is that if the baby were to arrive tomorrow, we’d be ok! I may have a list of things I’d like to get done, but I know that none of it has to get done… except putting the car seat in the car. That has helped to take the edge off and has honestly made preparation a lot more enjoyable.
For the Baby

-Wash baby clothes, make a list of what else he’ll need, and put away his clean clothes

My Own Self Care

-Get another prenatal massage
-Use weekends and days off to get things done, but also to rest
I’m really, really excited for our son to arrive. I’m hopeful I can get some of these things done before he arrives, but I’m really focused on getting things wrapped up at work and resting before the baby arrives. I’m not ready for sleepless nights just yet, so I want to enjoy all the naps and tear free nights before he gets here. Neal has been a huge help these past few months and I know he’ll help me tackle these projects these next few months. We can’t wait to welcome our son to our family and for Magnolia to be a big sister!
