The month of March was a really fun month. We kicked off the month with our last taste of winter and enjoyed a beautiful dusting of snow.
That evening Magnolia and I flew to San Antonio, Texas to spend spring break with my family and dearest friends. We spent our first day outside before the rain settled in for the rest of the week and even saw a few Bluebonnets!
I drank my fair share of margaritas while in San Antonio, and was introduce to this amazing drink! If you’re a Costco member, trust me, go buy this stuff!!
The week in San Antonio went by too quickly, but I treasured every moment with my family and best friends. Luckily, I’ll be back in San Antonio in May to celebrate my sister’s graduation from Texas State University!! I can’t wait to be back!
The warmer weather followed me back to DC and I quickly jumped into spring mode once we were home. I decorated for Easter, put away my winter clothes, and continued to work on my office space.
The time change from Texas, plus daylight saving times, was absolutely horrible. We’re still not adjusted to daylight savings time, but we’re getting closer to Magnolia’s original bedtime. With the additional sunlight, we’ve started taking family walks every night when we get home from work. It’s the perfect way to wind down and to catch up after a long day. I honestly forgot how much I treasured evening strolls with Neal and Magnolia.
My obsession with Lularoe continued this month! I purchased this beautiful Amelia dress and plan to wear it to one of my April work functions.
I also splurged this month and bought a pantry for our kitchen. The plastic bin pantry worked… but this pantry is just perfect! I bought it at a small furniture store near Frederick, Maryland. I’m not a big fan of one of the owners, but I loved this piece too much to pass it up.
This month, I also started working with a behavioral nutritionist. I will meet with her once a month, and for now, am tracking the food I eat on the Rise Up app. The app is specifically designed for those with an eating disorder, but I really like how the app allows me to track what I’m eating and how I’m feeling before, during, and after I eat.
My two favorite food finds this month included the Good Foods Cranberry Almond Chicken Salad (found at Costco) and the new FlapJacked Chocolate Peanut Butter Mighty Muffin. I top mine with a little extra peanut butter and it’s divine!! I actually just bought more Mighty Muffins to keep in my desk at work. I’ve found that they’re the perfect 3:30PM snack!
This month I’ve also had an opportunity to take some extra time off work. As our fiscal year ends on April 30th, I’ve needed to use up 9 vacation days before then or I’ll lose them. My spring break trip helped, but I was still left with 5 additional days to use.
Last Thursday Neal and I took the morning off and went down to the Tidal Basin to see the Cherry Blossoms. It was a perfect morning and I’m so glad we took a few hours off to enjoy the weather and blossoms.
The month of March is ending on one really awesome note and one bummer of a note. Yesterday I set up my new standing desk at work and it is just about the most amazing thing ever! I feel very fortunate to have a standing desk and look forward to using it daily. So far I’ve enjoyed standing while working on e-mails and projects, only sitting when I’m meeting with students. It has worked out really well so far and I just love it!!
The bad news of the month is that I tore my meniscus. I’ve been in a bit of pain since football season ended last August, but was too prideful to see a doctor right away. All athletes will understand, but I worked to manage my injury these past 8 months as I didn’t want to be told to stop working out. It wasn’t until last month, when I was working out at OrangeTheory Fitness 3-4 times a week, that my pain began to increase. I’ve since returned to my 2 workouts a week at OrangeTheory, which helped, but I knew I needed to see a doctor. MRI results confirmed the tear, but thankfully we’re going to put off surgery for now. I’m still going to workout, as normal, but will need to make some modifications. It wasn’t the news I was hoping for, but I wasn’t shocked by the news. I’ve put my knees through a lot as a discus and hammer thrower, powerlifter, and football player, but now it’s time for me to take better care of them.
These last few days of March will be spent working on some big projects. I have a really big event at work tomorrow night and then plan to spend the last day of March working on a few house projects (I’m off Thursday – Yay!). March was a good month and I’m looking forward to April. I’m kicking off April with a trip to Las Vegas with my mom and brother and I can’t wait!
