I can not believe Magnolia is one month old today! I’d love to say that it feels like only yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital but I can’t begin to tell y’all how much we’ve all grown this past month. I am a different person than I was one month ago and it’s so amazing to see how Magnolia has changed.
Magnolia really is a happy and easy going baby! She’s pretty routine, eating every two hours from the start of her last feeding. Between feedings she is either alert and active, hanging out in her bouncy seat, or she naps. She loves movement, so unless she’s tired and wants to go to sleep she doesn’t really like being held. Magnolia naps here and there throughout the day but every day is different! Some days she naps all day long and other days she’s awake, napping here and there.
Since week two Magnolia has done an amazing job of sleeping for long stretches at night. The key is swaddling her! If her arms are out she’ll wake herself up. She’s quite the Houdini, getting her arms out of most swaddles so I use a SwaddleMe and then swaddle her in a blanket. Works like a charm! Most nights she eats around 8:30PM and then dozes off around 9:30PM. She then wakes between 1AM and 2AM to eat and then goes back to sleep until around 6AM for her breakfast. While I miss sleeping through the night I can not complain about the 7-8 hours of sleep I’m getting each night!
As a woman and as a mom I’ve grown so much! Magnolia has taught me patience and has really put a lot of things into perspective for me. Things I used to worry about just don’t matter any more. My energy is precious so instead of giving my energy to things that don’t matter I focus on my family and the things that bring me true joy.
My first two weeks were an emotional roller coaster because of my hormones and difficulties with breastfeeding but week three was a real turning point for me. I’ve felt like myself ever since and have had a much more pleasant experience with breastfeeding!
During my first month postpartum I didn’t track one single calorie! As I shared a few weeks ago I actually really struggled to make myself a priority those first few weeks. I forgot to eat all the time because I was so busy with Magnolia. Things really shifted during week three and I’ve gotten into a much healthier routine ever since. I eat three meals each day and snacks in-between as needed and take full advantage of nap time!
Physically I feel amazing! Sure I’m tired most days but I really can’t believe that one month ago I was delivering Magnolia. I fully attribute my fast recovery to how active I was able to be during my pregnancy. I know every pregnancy is different, but I’m so grateful I was able to work out through 40 weeks and that I’m back to working out 4 weeks later. It just feels great to feel like myself again and to be able to dedicate time to my health and wellness each day.
The month ahead is really special for me as it’s my last month at home before going back to work. It’s bittersweet, but it makes me treasure each and every moment with Magnolia. Happy one month sweet Magnolia!
