I’m extremely grateful to have been given an opportunity to work a flexible schedule this past academic year. I work long hours certain nights and then have a day away from the office every other week. Yesterday was my day off and I really, really needed it! I’ll confess, I’ve spent one too many of my days off work doing work. It’s just easy to crank out a bunch of work when I’m home alone. I stayed late Wednesday in order to get a few things done before my day off. I was determined to use the day to get things done around the house, to do a little shopping, and to get some fresh air.
I woke up, without an alarm, a little after 7:30AM. I felt refreshed and was happy to see that Magnolia was still sleeping. I hopped into the shower, got dressed, and picked up a little before she woke up. After getting Magnolia ready for the day, I grabbed cold-pressed energy juice and drove Magnolia to daycare.
Since I was already out, I headed over to Kohl’s to exchange a dress I had bought for a new size and then ran into Bath and Body Works to pick up some spring time scents. I picked up 2 candles, soaps for the house, and a few goodies for me and a loved one.
Once home, I made a late breakfast (egg whites, bagel thin, and cream cheese) and watched a little TV. At 11:15AM I threw on my rain coat and headed out for a walk around the lake with a friend. The rain stopped about a mile into the walk, but I really enjoyed being outside despite the dreary day.
I hit my step goal for the day by the time I got home, which was awesome. After settling in and changing my clothes I started picking up the kitchen. As I shared last week, my dining room table has become the holding place of many, many things. I took some time before lunch to organize the kitchen and to put everything that was on the table away.
Afterwards I made lunch (lettuce, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, shredded cheese, grilled chicken breast, croutons, and light ranch dressing) and watched a little TV before tacking the rest of the house.
It took me a few hours, but I cleaned the entire house! Well, everything except the bathrooms. Neal can tackle those this weekend. I dusted, mopped, vacuumed, folded laundry, made beds, took out the recycling and trash, and put away lots of odds and ends. It feels so great having a clean house!
At 5:30PM I left to go pick up Magnolia from daycare and then swung by HomeGoods, just because. Magnolia loves sitting in carts, so she didn’t mind one bit! I didn’t find anything, but it was nice walking around.
Once home, I took Theodore and Magnolia for a walk, made Magnolia dinner, and made myself dinner before Neal got home. Once Neal was home, he took care of Magnolia’s bedtime routine and I enjoyed dinner. I ended my day with a little blogging while watching the Capitals game.
I really needed the day off and am so glad I was able to clean the house. I needed a clean slate! I have a ton to get done today, but I’m really looking forward to the weekend. I’m getting my hair cut and colored tomorrow morning, am going to the DC Divas game tomorrow night, and then am spending Sunday with some dear friends! I can’t wait!
