Happy Holidays! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, are enjoying the Hanukkah celebrations, and are having a relaxing Boxing Day! Last week I closed out the fall semester and on Friday I locked up my office for the next two weeks. This was a difficult fall semester and I’m thankful to have closed the book on it. I am thankful to be able to take 2 weeks off work and my goal is to rest, relax, and recharge before kicking off the spring semester.
Saturday morning was rainy here in the DC area, so we hung out at home and relaxed. Mid morning I got out of my PJ’s, took a shower, and got right back into my new Christmas PJ’s from Lane Bryant.
We watched Christmas movies, played games, and hung out around the house. When Magnolia went down for her nap, Neal and I cleaned out the basement and set up her new Little Tikes Jump n’ Slide Bouncer. Magnolia, like many toddlers, is very active, so we thought this would be the perfect Christmas present as we move into the winter months.
For Christmas Eve dinner I made a few appetizers and enjoyed a quiet evening with Neal and Magnolia. After Magnolia went to bed, Neal and I put on It’s a Wonderful Life and wrapped all of our presents.
I had the best of intentions of getting everything done last week, but I’ll admit that I kinda like the late night Christmas Eve tradition. Before going to bed I FaceTimed with my sister and then watched midnight mass from Rome, which was amazing.
Christmas morning I woke up around 6AM and headed downstairs to make our Christmas cinnamon rolls. This year I decided to use a bread machine recipe. The bread machine made the dough overnight, so all I had to do in the morning was to roll out the dough, cover it with all the goodies, roll it, slice it, allow it to rise, and bake while I made the icing.
After Neal and Magnolia woke up we enjoyed breakfast and then listened to Christmas music while Magnolia played with a few of the toys Santa brought her that were unwrapped, like this awesome Sit n’ Stand Skyway.
Late morning we opened presents. Magnolia made out like a bandit and it was wonderful watching her open up the gifts, including Neal’s and mine. Neal bought me a new pair of running shoes, a photography book, and the Toy Story collection. My mom also got me this amazing Breville Smart Oven!!! I can’t wait to use it! I got Neal tickets to see James Taylor, the Impractical Jokers DVDs, and a new board game.
Stocking are one of my favorite parts of the gift giving tradition. I love stuffing the stockings with little trinkets, gift cards, and sweets. Neal got me the original My Little Pony DVD set, my favorite sweets, earrings, and running socks. It was great!
After opening up gifts we played with Magnolia and then settled in to take a nap while Magnolia napped. Neal knocked out quickly, but I ended up digging into my new book, Body Kindness by Rebecca Scritchfield. I adore Rebecca and this book is amazing!! I highly recommend it, even though I’m only 1/4 the way through it!
After Magnolia’s nap we closed out the day with a long walk around the lake at sunset. The weather has been mild, so we’ve been enjoying longer walks again.
The sunset was beautiful and the perfect pre-dinner exercise. We ended up having a pretty simple dinner last night since it was just the three of us.
It was a wonderful weekend and a perfect Christmas Day. We’re all still in Christmas mode and are looking forward to enjoying the day before Neal goes back to work on Tuesday. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
