This past week was anything but routine. After a wonderful weekend, Neal and I both had Monday and Tuesday off due to hurricane Sandy. It was heartbreaking to see how Sandy affected New Jersey and New York, so I was incredibly grateful that the DC area saw minimal damage.
Though I hated the reason why we had off, only having to work 3 days this past week was pretty awesome. Yesterday did not feel like Friday one bit, but I can’t complain about it being the weekend already.
After work yesterday my friend Jessica and I headed to Color Me Mine Rockville to paint some pottery.
Although I’m always drawn to the coffee mugs I decided to paint a small (super small) bowl to use as a dessert bowl.
I think this bowl will make a 1/2 cup of ice cream look like 2 cups… nothing like tricking the mind and sticking to the ice cream serving size.
I never really know what I’m going to paint on my pottery, but something always seems to enter my brain and then I just got with it.
I started thinking of stained glass and mosaics and thought I could create the same design inside of the bowl. I started with black paint and began painting randoms shapes.
Next I picked out 5 jewel like colors to use to fill in the shapes.
I really, really loved the semi finished product and can’t wait to see what it looks like after it is fired.
My friend Jessica painted an awesome chip and dip platter, starting with a butter cream base.
She then hand painted paisleys on the inside of the chip bowl.
Painting pottery is so much fun and a great way to spend girls night! I can’t wait to show y’all the finished products.
Have you ever painted pottery?
