I think stores carry the most adorable infant Halloween costumes, but I had a hard time finding a cute and warm costume for my toddler. I knew I didn’t have the time, or the skills, to make an elaborate costume from scratch, but I knew I could create something simple for my 2 year old.
One day in Target, I saw the most adorable sparkly red pants and it hit me! What about an easy toddler gumball machine Halloween costume? I knew the costume would be easy to make and wouldn’t cost much money to make.
- Red pants
- Plain white sweatshirt and long sleeve white shirt
- Black fabric marker
- Gold fabric marker
- Small and medium sized colorful pompoms
- 2 pieces of card stock
To start, place a piece of card stock inside the t-shirt or sweat shirt. This will prevent the paint or glue from bleeding through to the back. Next, using a bowl, draw a circle on the second piece of card stock and cut out the circle.
Using the Black fabric marker, trace around the circle onto the front of the shirt. You could use paint, but the fabric marker worked just fine.
Next, using the gold fabric marker, draw out the tot of the gumball machine. Most gumball machines have a red top, so you might want to find a red marker instead of the gold.
While the marker dries, prepare the pom poms and the glue. Glue each pom pom to the inside of the circle, filling up the circle as much as you’d like.
Allow the glue to dry completely and then remove the card stock from inside the shirt.
The costume was so easy to make and cost me less than $10. My daughter was comfortable, warm, and everyone knew what she was. It made for the perfect toddler Halloween costume.
