Last weekend Neal and I both decided we were in need of some new running shoes. If you’re anything like me, I use to wear my shoes until they’re falling apart and tend to decide upon my next pair by the feel and the color… but did you know there’s a little bit more to it?
While training for my half marathon back in 2009 I learned that a pair of running shoes is good for 350-550 miles. Never before had I thought about the miles I put on my shoes because really, I wasn’t running enough to really care or tell the difference. As I started to run more I began paying more attention to my shoes.
I realized quickly that a good and healthy pair of running shoes made a world of difference in my runs… and trust me, I needed all the help I could get. With about 10 miles being put on my running shoes each week I’ve found that I need a new pair just about every 10 months.
Neal and I headed over to Potomac River Running last Saturday where we were able to get out feet looked at. Potomac River Running prefers to do an assessment of someone’s feet and their stride before putting them in a shoe, that way they make sure someone is getting the type of shoe support they need.
They said that my stride actually looked really great, which was surprising to me. They put me in a medium support shoe and gave me a number to try on.
I personally have always loved running in Brooks and assumed I’d just get another pair…
but then I met these babies!
I had never tried on a pair of Saucony and was really pleased with how they fit. They were light and provided an amazing amount of cushion compared to the other shoes I had tried on. Despite loving the Brooks, these shoes provided a more comfortable fit which sold me on them.
Running 6 miles last weekend went smoothly and I absolutely loved running in my new shoes. My feet felt great throughout the run and provided me with the support I needed to make it through all 6 miles… next up, 7 miles Sunday morning!
