From the moment I found out I was pregnant I began preparing for our daughter’s arrival. I read, shopped, cleaned, organized, went on dates with my husband, and tried to make the most of every moment. Neal and I were as prepared as we could be, but what I wasn’t prepared for was breastfeeding!
I knew that I’d be sleep deprived, that the baby’s schedule would most likely be flip flopped, and that we’d change an awful lot of diapers, but I never anticipated how physically and emotionally draining breastfeeding would be. I honestly figured that the baby would be hungry, she’d latch onto me, and that she’d eat every 2-3 hours. I didn’t anticipate her struggling to latch, my milk supply fluctuating, and the pain that would come from both issues. While these first few weeks of breastfeeding haven’t been as easy as I had imagined they’d be, things are getting better every day!
As a soon to be working Mom, I was thrilled to have been asked to review the Ameda Purely Yours Double Electric Breast Pump. My initial plan was to start using the pump a few weeks before returning to work, but little did I know it would be a lifesaver these first few weeks.
I began pumping during week 2 for two reasons. First, it gave me much needed relief on the days when the baby wasn’t feeding well. I knew that pumping would allow me to express breast milk and to either feed the milk to the baby that day or to freeze it for another day.
The other reason I began pumping early was to give my husband an opportunity to feed the baby and to bond with his daughter during that time. My husband has been so incredibly helpful, but I knew he wanted to do more! He wanted to be able to feed our daughter and I loved that the Ameda Breast Pump gave him that opportunity!
Things I love about the Ameda Purely Yours Double Electric Breast Pump
1. The pump and accessories are incredibly easy to clean!
2. You have the option to pump both at the same time.
3. The pump has great suction when pumping one breast at a time.
4. No need to clean pump tubing as it isn’t affected by milk.
5. The pump is lightweight, comes with a carryall tote, and is great for traveling.
6. The extra accessories are affordable!
Things I don’t love about the Ameda Purely Yours Double Electric Breast Pump
1. The suction when using both pumps isn’t as great as when single pumping.
2. The pump doesn’t come with multiple size breast flanges.
I didn’t realize how challenging breastfeeding would be these first few weeks, so I’ve been incredibly happy being able to pump when needed and to give my husband a chance to feed the baby as well. I plan to continue using it as needed while on maternity leave and then to use it daily when I return to work. Overall, I have been incredibly happy with the Ameda Purely Yours Double Electric Breast Pump!
