I am sitting here, at 7:08 on a Saturday morning, and all is well! Neal and Magnolia are asleep in their beds and Kinnick is asleep in my arms. The house, in its incredibly messy state, is peaceful. The only thing that could make this moment better is a cup of coffee, but I haven’t trained Theo to make and bring me a cup just yet.
This was a perfectly wonderful, hectic, joyful, and unorganized week. I went into the week with a plan in place and I can tell you, nothing went as planned. On Monday I got little to none of my “before I return to work” to do list accomplished, and just around the time I got motivated, Magnolia came home from daycare with a high fever. On Tuesday I returned to work part time, which was wonderful, but it was hard leaving Neal with Kinnick AND Magnolia. On Wednesday we took Magnolia to the doctor, just to make sure she was 100% and could return to school on Thursday, and I worked from home during nap time. Thursday I was back in the office, but as I sat down for my first pumping session at work, I realized I had forgotten a major piece of my breast pump! It was incredibly frustrating, as I could have sworn I triple checked my 4 work bags (lol), but nope!
Friday was the silver lining! Neal went to work downtown, Magnolia went to school, and I was home with Kinnick. What Monday and Wednesday were planned to look like. On Friday I went to OrangeTheory, took Magnolia to daycare, did a little work while Kinnick napped, enjoyed a big cup of coffee, went to an appointment, napped with Kinnick in the early afternoon, grabbed iced Matcha lattes with a friend, and went to Magnolia’s back to school night. I also got some amazing news and received our newborn photo shoot proofs from Stefanie Harrington! It was a very good day.
I share all of this because it didn’t matter how much I plan! The weeks are never going to go as planned and yet here I sit, 5 days later, and all is well! Weeks like this remind Neal and me that we can’t do it all! We can’t work, care for our kids, keep the house spotless, write/blog, and tackle everything on our to do list! We did our best and made it through the week, but there is a whole lot we didn’t do… and that’s ok!
This weekend, we have very few plans. A dear coworker of mine is visiting this morning and then we’re just planning to enjoy the weather and to spend time around the house. My personal goals are to…
-Play with my kiddos and relax with Neal
-Fold the 4 loads of laundry in our bedroom
-Vacuum and clean the carpets (we bought a new floor cleaner)
-Plan out our meals for the week ahead and go grocery shopping
-Wrap up a few work projects before the first day of school on Monday
Come Monday, my hope is to be recharged and to have the house a little more in order than where it was when the weekend started. The week ahead is full of unknowns, but mornings like this remind me that all is well, no matter how the week turns out!
