1. Big news!
Yesterday I shared some exciting news on my Instagram Stories. This was a long time coming, but I finally bit the bullet and have decided to study for my personal training certification through NASM. I don’t know where this will take me, but I know earning my certification is the very first step. My hope is that I can bring diversity to the fitness industry, even in just my little bubble. I don’t fit the traditional mold and I hope that will empower women of all shapes and sizes to try out a new class, to join a gym, and to break past their own fitness insecurities. I know how scary fitness can be, especially as a plus size woman, and I want to help others to find freedom in fitness!
I can’t wait to share what I’m learning and to see where this leap takes me!
2. Around the corner…
I am going against my goal to live in the moment, but can we just take a second to talk about what’s around the corner? FALL!!!! HOLIDAYS!!!! COOLER WEATHER!!!! I definitely want to make the most of these last few weeks of summer, but I won’t deny that I am so, so, so excited for football season to start, for the seasons to change, and for all that September, October, November, and December will hold. Gosh… it’s just the best time of the year and I can’t wait! OH, and I can’t wait to drink pumpkin beer!
3. Back to the here and now
Ok, back to the summer sun. We have 4 full weeks until Labor Day weekend and 7 full weeks until the first day of Fall (September 22). That’s a lot of time and a lot of summer to still enjoy. I already set my goals for the month of August, but there are a few things I’d love to do before we move into fall…
- Attend a Nationals baseball game
- Buy some flowers from the farmers market
- Enjoy early Saturday morning donuts with Neal and Magnolia
- Lay out by the pool, just one time before it closes
- Enjoy an iced cold beer on a patio
- Walk the W&OD trail and end our workout with a South Block smoothie bowl
- Take Magnolia to the splash park one last time
4. My house
We will have lived in our house for 2 years this November and I have to admit, I have done little to no decorating in those 2 years. I have pinned a ton of things onto private Pinterest boards and have reorganized the same spaces a gazillion times (my basement and loft), but I’ve yet to really decorate. As a military brat, we never really settled. My parents would hang a few things, but we never painted and your moving boxes were never too far away. I love decorating, but I’ll admit that decorating an entire house is daunting!
I’ve tried to break things down by room, but even then, it’s hard to know where to start. I start thinking of things to hang and then I realize that I should probably paint before we hang things. Then I realize, crap, I need to pick out colors and really narrow down my design look. It’s overwhelming, especially because our house is really outdated and we’re watching our money, but I know I need to get organized and focus on one room at a time.
5. September to December
As I’ve mentioned a few times, although I’ll be returning to work around 6 weeks postpartum, I’ll be working part time from September to December. It’ll be a transition, but I’m looking forward to working in the office 2 days a week and to having 4 additional months at home with Kinnick. It’s the best of both worlds for me postpartum. I am really looking forward to having days at home with Kinnick, to watching him grow, and to spending quality time with him while he’s so young before sending him to daycare.
I am also looking forward to being at home as Magnolia transitions to preschool in September. I love being a working mom, but I’ll admit that it’s hard not being around as our family goes through various transitions. I’m looking forward to being home a few days a week and to have that extra time to spend with Magnolia when she gets home from school. I want her to see me, for her to know I’m present, and for me to have that extra time to spend with her as she grows. It’s hard seeing her turn 3 (where do the years ago?), but I’m grateful to have extra time to spend with her this fall.
Lastly, I’m looking forward to having some extra time at home and to tackle some projects when Kinnick naps. I really do want to clean out our house, to organize our rooms, and to decorate. I also want to tackle some long overdo projects, like our photo albums. I have lots on the brain, and I know I can’t tackle it all this fall, but it’ll be nice to have this extra time at home. Studying for my personal training certification will be a top priority, but it’ll be nice to work on a few other things as well before going back to work full time in January.
