This is my first official weekly pregnancy update for my second pregnancy! I was hoping to start them a few weeks back, but it’s wild how quickly the days and weeks go by these days. The past few weeks have been hectic. Between the start of the spring semester, pregnancy appointments, chasing after our playful 2 year old, and my pregnancy exhaustion, I haven’t gotten a whole lot done outside of work. My house is a mess, I haven’t been able to blog much, I feel like I’ve hardly connected with my husband, and I haven’t talked to many family or friends. The great thing is I have more energy than I’ve had in weeks and my nausea is essentially gone, but I’m still going to bed most nights by 8:30AM and have little motivation to use my weekends for anything other than rest.
The Bump – I started to pop last week. In the morning it’s a little bump and then after breakfast I’m a lot more round. I’m still in that awkward stage of wearing my regular clothes but feeling uncomfortable and switching to maternity clothes.
Gender – As I’m 32, I wasn’t required to do any of the genetic testing at 10 weeks. We’re hoping to find out the baby’s gender at our anatomy scan in 3 weeks. We’d love to have a boy, which I often wonder if we’re having, but deep down I wonder if it’s another baby girl.
Movement – There have been a few times when I’ve wonderful if I’ve felt something, but lets be honest, it was probably gas. I didn’t feel Magnolia move until around 20 weeks, so I’m sure it’ll take as long this time.
Maternity Clothes – I’m really hoping to get through the winter without having to buy any new clothes. I’m ALL about the dresses and skirts during the spring and summer months of pregnancy. I did get some new workout clothes from the Lane Bryant LIVI collection, which I’m loving. As a plus size woman, it can be hard to find plus size maternity clothes that fit well. Lane Bryant isn’t maternity, but I appreciate how their clothes fit.
Overall Wellness – I’ll be honest, I haven’t felt too great the past two weeks. I’m hoping that with more energy comes the drive to workout more and to eat better. My diet has definitely improved since the bread filled days of the first trimester, but I know I could put a little more effort into meal planning. For anyone who has been pregnant, this is just that funky stage. I don’t have a big pregnancy belly, so I’m really just feeling large, uncomfortable, and exhausted. Not the greatest feelings in the world. Hopefully I can regain some energy and get back into a healthier wellness routine these next few weeks before I hit the halfway mark.
Sleep – Ehh, I’ve slept better. I’ve still been sleeping on my back, but I just haven’t been comfortable. I ended up buying a new pregnancy pillow, and so far I’m not a fan. I’ve woken up with a stiff neck a few too many times. It’s different than the one I bought last pregnancy and I’m regretting my choice. For now I’m just using extra pillows to place on my sides.
Food Cravings – I haven’t been craving much, but I have enjoyed Mediterranean flavors and have been wanting more protein. I’ve been craving sandwiches, so it was nice to get a roasted turkey sandwich at Panera the other day. This week has been filled with lots of eating out, mainly because of events at work and my laziness in the mornings (forgot to pack lunch twice this week). We’ve been eating dinners at home, mostly salads, but I know I can step it up a bit without over doing it.
Pregnancy Brain – I left my work laptop at home yesterday… does that count? I never regained true clarity/brain functionality after having Magnolia, so I’m hoping I get some back by the time my kids graduate from college. Maybe I’ll trade that in for gray hair.
Workouts – Ehh, this week wasn’t the best! I went to Orange Theory last Friday and went on a few good walks, but that was it. I overslept OrangeTheory on Monday (first time doing that this pregnancy) and didn’t reschedule. I’ve just been so tired! I’m wanting to add in some at home workouts, so I might try that for next week.
Week 16 Overall – This week I have a weird mix of increased energy and absolute exhaustion. I’m not feeling great overall, but I’m definitely feeling better. I think it’s just one of those weird weeks and I’ll look back in a few weeks and realize how much better I feel. I do need to use the weekend ahead to get the house in order and to do a little planning. I’m not planning to do any baby prep until we find out the gender, so for now, my goal is to sleep, do the best I can each day, and to be kind to myself. I’m really excited to be pregnant and I’m really looking forward to moving into the second half of pregnancy.
